Purpose/Main Functions of Position
The purpose of the Building Service Trainee programme is to provide a broad training programme to those seeking to develop a career within building Services. The programme may be of a varied length depending upon the experience and academic qualifications of individuals as they enter into the programme. Over a two to three year period, experience will be gained in Contracts, Estimating & Design, Surveying, Purchasing and Health & Safety, together with site based experience.
The main duties and responsibilities detailed below are a flavour of what is expected of the Building Services Trainees, as an Individuals Trainee Log Book details in depth the placements to be undertaken and the activities covered.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To attend college on a regular basis, fulfilling all academic work as required and applying this knowledge to the department and tasks currently being undertaken.
2. To follow the tasks contained within the Building Services Trainee Log Book for each placement and apply past learning and experience in order to support the work of the various disciplines.
3. Assist in the work of each Department in order for that Department to achieve its primary goals and objectives.
4. Demonstrate growing knowledge and understanding of Building Services and the Group by working to a high standard and being able to contribute to problem solving and complex issues as they occur.
5. Undertake any other duties as requested by the person you are reporting to, which fall within the scope of the position.
6. Work safely in accordance with the company’s current health and safety policy and procedures.
7. To work in an office environment and on-site locations.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies required
A keen interest in heating, ventilation and air conditioning electrical systems and their installation methods.
The ability to plan ahead, co-ordinate and prioritise workloads.
The ability to apply knowledge and skills as they are learnt
The ability to pursue two to three years further education while maintaining a full time job.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
The ability to work under pressure to meet set deadlines.
Numeracy and literacy skills.
The ability to multi-task and be methodical.
The ability to work as a member of a multi disciplinary team and involve other trainees.
A pro-active approach to problem solving.
A basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.
The ability to carry out research.
Measurement of success
To attend College on a regular and consistent basis.
To achieve good grades, preferably merit or distinction or higher.
To participate in progress reviews on a regular basis.
To successfully complete your log book.
To represent the Group in a professional manner.
To perform the tasks as detailed in the job description with specified deadlines.
