Principal Mechanical Engineer now required to lead a Mechanical Design team for special purpose remote operation machines for handling spent nuclear fuel and other related nuclear projects. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be working for a client who have rapidly established themselves as a major engineering and site services contractor addressing the large project services opportunities emerging within the UK’s civil and defence sector.
The successful candidate will take specific responsibility for leading a design & engineering team specifically responsible for the timely delivery of projects concentrated around special purpose remote operated machinery. Experienced in the preparation of requirement specifications, leading a team of engineers, liaison with internal customers and external clients together with the analysis and subsequent solution of engineering problems of varying complexity.
Ideally degree qualified with Chartered status or working towards, you must possess:
· Background of equipment/machine mechanical design for Nuclear applications including mechanisms, structures, cranes, handling systems and pressure components
· Recent design leadership
· Ability to technically guide and direct the engineering team
· Understand the use of AutoCAD to prepare concept designs and details design scheme drawings
· Awareness and experience of using national design codes and standards
· Understanding of radiation physics, use of shielding materials, effects of radiation on materials
