Industrial Designer
Our Client is a leader in the development of a range of specialised electronic, data handling and communications devices. Products range from hand-held communications devices to static terminals used within industrial environments.
To meet their additional development programmes, they require an experienced Industrial Designer to join their small Industrial Design team based in central London.
The Role:
Candidates will need to have a creative flair and experience gained within consumer products, medical, healthcare or similar electronic device environments. This creativity will need to be backed up by a solid understanding of engineering principles including making considerations for the latest tooling and manufacturing techniques.
Candidates who have worked in consumer electronic product manufacturers, OEM organisations or design consultancies would be of particular interest.
The successful candidate will work alongside other ID professionals as well as other specialists in areas such as electronics, software and other emerging technologies. Once a new product brief has been defined, candidates will be involved in generating concept designs via free hand sketches and 2D/3D renderings for subsequent design reviews.
Requirements:
Good Degree in Industrial Design or Product Design
Pro/ENGINEER (Pro/E) CAD skills are essential (preferably WildFire4)
Experience of designing complex plastic components
Excellent Surface Modelling skills essential
Understanding of electronic packaging, including for rugged environments.
Familiar with ergonomics, aesthetics and human factors throughout all design phases
Knowledge of injection moulding and associated tooling/manufacturing techniques
Good understanding of user interface design
Up to date with latest materials and surface finishes and colour trends
Good free hand sketching/illustration skills
2D software skills (Photoshop/Illustrator)
Model making skills desirable
Ability to communicate well, both verbally and via sketches.
Good written communication skills are also essential.
Willingness to travel
Candidates will ideally have gained 5 years relevant experience in an industrial/product design role and have a proven track record of successful product development

Candidates must be confident in their designs and be able to work with supporting teams throughout the world to progress their designs through to completion.
