Job Overview:
The role is for a High Speed Digital Design Engineer to join our multi-skilled Development team on a permanent basis. You will be involved with the Design, Development and Manufacture of sophisticated Automated Head / Media Test Systems for the Disk drive industry. As a Team member you will be exposed to an extensive range of leading edge Technologies being applied to a range of sophisticated automated test solutions.
Working from an initial requirement, the engineer must be able to produce implementation concepts and identify the optimum solution. The engineer will be responsible for defining detailed requirements, carrying out design and simulation followed by testing. Responsible for ensuring the designed solution meets the system requirement. You will be expected to work within a multi-disciplined team, and will be exposed to many cross functional aspects of the project, working closely with Software and Mechanical team members during system Integration.
Travel to the US, Far East, and Europe is likely, in order to participate in Design Implementation and Installation support, during the debugging phase of equipment in Customer premises.
Technical profile:
Degree or equivalent qualification with substantial experience in High Speed Digital Design and Development (ideally coupled with mentoring and demonstrating some degree of project responsibility)
Digital Design Techniques:
- Design from concept of High Speed Digital circuits up to 5GHz
- Able to apply novel solutions to achieve high performance
- Familiarity with CMOS, ECL/PECL, LVDS and CML
- Interfacing High Speed devices
- Good understanding of Signal Integrity, EMI/EMC, cross-talk, jitter
- Clock distribution
- Design of systems to transmit signals over significant PCB or cable distances
- Use of simulation tools
- DFM, DFT and Cost aware
- Good understanding of PCB layout techniques, materials and requirements, able to guide layout, of High Speed circuits
- Able to carry out detailed Timing Analysis
- VHDL for FPGA Design, is desirable
- Use of high Speed Interfaces on FPGA's, is also desirable
- Able to carry out Design trade-offs
- Responsible for Design, Test and all of its associated Documentation
- Able to carry out general Digital Design from concept to tested PCB using standard components (microprocessors, memories etc)
