My client produces the world's most advanced software for modelling and analysing electromagnetic equipment and effects.
My client has developed two powerful generic modelling tools (Opera and Concerto), which deliver design solutions for a wide range of specialised applications, including a diverse range of machines and consumer devices. They also provide highly accurate solutions for Defence and Transport customers, specialised modelling techniques for a wide range of scientific, medical & industrial clients as well as a wide range of communication products.
The Role
Reporting to the Development Manager, the Principal Software Engineer will be responsible for developing and supporting Finite Element (FE) based software for 3D mechanical structural simulation in a multi-physics environment.
Primary responsibilities
• To specify function requirements for mechanical-structural simulation solvers including engineering inputs, outputs and boundary conditions;
• The development and integration of multi-physics numerical solvers into a range of FE software products and the support of that FE software throughout its product life cycle.
• To develop in-depth knowledge of Vector Fields software products and service offerings, technical capabilities, operations and staff, within defined timescales
• To manage and carry out development projects and to test and document software products in accordance with timescales and budgets
• To participate and cooperate in the activities of the software development group assisting in the planning and strategy of the future evolution of the groups software products;
• To keep up-to-date with pertinent engineering applications to define future enhancements of the software, ensuring it continues to address the needs of users;
• To develop knowledge of applicable developments in mathematical algorithms used by the numerical solvers in the groups software to define future software enhancements, thus ensuring the software keeps its reputation for capability and accuracy;
• To represent the Company at conferences and exhibitions as required;
Requirements
Degree level or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent), with an understanding of the design of structural mechanics and its engineering application.
Competent programmer in C++ and FORTRAN with a demonstrable track record in a related technical role.
