A key member of the Major Projects Design Team with responsibility carrying out the duties of Architectural design reviews and liase with internal and external divisions.
Key accountabilities
•Ensure delegated duties of the Design Authority for the discipline as requested by Head of Architecture are carried out
•Ensure adequate monitoring of engineering configuration changes for ‘architecture’ on behalf of the Design Authority.
•Ensure Review Learn and Improve (RLI) exercises are carried out for ‘architecture’ and demonstrate compliance with company processes.
•Ensure the preparation and delivery of ‘architectural’ design solutions, which fully comply with all applicable Legislation, British Standards and company Documentation to an agreed time, cost and quality.
•Ensure compliance, in all activities undertaken, with Company Security, Quality, Environmental, Safety and Health (SQESH) requirements.
•Ensure duties of design in relation to Construction, Design and Management Regulations and other relevant regulations are executed.
•Ensure ‘architectural’ design tasks as allocated by Engineering Managers are delivered with appropriate designs and to agreed time, cost and quality requirements
Responsibilities
•To ensure that responsibilities with regard to the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards are met and understood
•Attend design reviews as directed as the ‘architectural’ representative for projects of a multidisciplinary nature including capital investment schemes and minor works.
•Contribute to integrated safety when reviewing or producing engineering designs.
•Contribute to maintenance of standards including ‘architecture’.
•Demonstrate the use of best practice for ‘architectural’ projects and services and ensure the safety and integrity of ‘architectural’ systems within the site infrastructure is maintained.
•Maintain effective working relationships with other Authorities/disciplines
•Support to Corporate activities.
•Development of external relationships, as required.
Qualifications
•Appropriate professional qualifications. Membership of an Institution (i.e. RIBA) is preferred.
•The ability to undertake all necessary training to operate on a nuclear licensed site, including:
•Site specific safety training
•Project and general management training
•Technical and safety related training
Knowledge
•Undertaking design and configuration for the life of a project. Particular experience in the ‘architectural’ design of a variety of facilities including accommodation, research and testing facilities in both conventional and hazardous environments.
•Demonstrate a good understanding of fundamental principles ‘architectural’ design methods.
•Demonstrate a good understanding of technical standards and regulatory requirements for construction as appropriate.
•Understanding of the influences of ‘architectural’ design on the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements of a regulated site.
•Knowledge and use of New Engineering Contract and National Building Specification
Experience
•Relevant experience within appointed discipline and knowledge with associated project delivery disciplines.
Skills
•Good technical skills including problem solving and decision making.
•Good oral, written and presentational skills with a particular aptitude for report, documentation and letter writing.
•Good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective communication to all levels to both internal and external personnel.
•Familiarity with standard office software; word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, presentations and databases.
