Reporting to: Production Shift Managers

Main Responsibilities

To provide setting and technical support to the shift.

To ensure that quality parts are manufactured on time according to the daily production schedule. The technician will play an active role in TPM, Kaizen and SMED activities.

The Candidate

You will be a highly experience Moulding Technician used to operating in a high volume manufacturing environment ideally automotive, with a proven track record in production & process improvements.

You will have sound experience of quality related issues and being at least NVQ 3 or IMT3 City & guilds trained and preferably trained in Advanced Polymer Processing.

You will be a passionate team player with strong leadership skills, experienced problem solving and excellent communication skills. With your previous experience in a high volume injection moulding environment you will been keen to work productively with other teams and managers whilst striving for world class status.

Key Tasks:

Managing Operations

To review machine settings during the shift.
To play an active role in improvements to support the departmental and company objectives.
To have an active involvement in improvement activities to support the achievement of departmental and company objectives.
To audit TPM cards and mould setting parameters.
To audit and document machine settings and material shot weights during each shift.
To ensure that housekeeping within the area is carried out and maintained in a satisfactory condition.

Technical Support

To provide trouble-shooting and technical support for the shift.
To analyse defect parts and introduce countermeasures using effective problem solving techniques.
To develop and support regular tool servicing programmes and identify any additional tooling requirements.
To assist, where necessary in the trialling of new tools and materials into production. The relevant supporting documentation should be collated and stored for future reference.
To do a day to day shift change over and ensure any problems, changes and absenteeism is logged.

Supervisory

To co-ordinate the activities of Setters and Trainee Setters to meet daily production targets.
To train setters/trainee setters in all areas of the Moulding Function including safe start up/shut down, running, fixing and TPM of machinery within the working area and also maintain and update training logs.

Managing Information and Communication

To have an awareness of health and safety standards end the implications of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and ensure they are maintained at all times by all employees.
To ensure that all quality information is recorded in the correct manner and is audited on a regular basis to ensure legal compliance.
To liaise with the Machine Group Leader, Production Shift Manager and the Setter Facilitator (Injection Moulding) to organise tool changes most effectively.
To identify areas of risk in your surrounding areas and inform your Setter Facilitator.
To communicate by written and verbal means using the Company communication channels to ensure the understanding of colleagues and management.
To attend meetings where necessary with the Setter Facilitator to discuss improvements to productivity and reliability of machinery and tooling.

Person Specification/Qualifications

Level 3 in an engineering related subject Advanced Polymer processing
ONC/HNC in Plastics Manufacturing or any other industry recognised qualification.
Experience

Previous leadership experience as well as hands on experience working with quality, production and technical environments.

Experience of working in an automotive industry

Previous experience delivering training in all areas of the Injection Moulding Machine function.

Job knowledge

Must be computer literate, including the ability to use spreadsheets and databases.
Good process and mechanical skills within injection moulding.

Knowledge of TPS, Kaizen, JIT, SMED and lean manufacturing.

Special aptitudes

Excellent practical problem-solving skills.
This position requires a self motivated individual, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Must be capable of working well as part of a team or individually.

Other
Must have a positive can-do attitude and the ability to motivate people.
