We are a recruitment company and we are assisting our client in sourcing a Principal Naval Architect.
The role of the Principal Naval Architect will report to the Design Services Manager and be based in Portsmouth.
The successful candidate will undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to stakeholders and other functions and/or to organise and co-ordinate aspects of engineering activity ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.
As a Principal Naval Architect your main responsibilities will involve:
Participate fully in Design Reviews either presenting information to the review or as part of the reviewing team i.e. assessor or chair.
Carry out relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids.
As a Principal Naval Architect your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Experience in engineering or a defence or related industry
Experience in more than one phase of the engineering lifecycle, with sufficient experience of the total lifecycle to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues
Degree qualified, likely to be in a technology, engineering or science related discipline
Meet the requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council and preferably be a member of a relevant Professional Body
You will be someone who possesses in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals within their discipline. You will be recognised and consulted as one of the experts within at least one domain or for possessing deep knowledge of several domains within your discipline, and able to perform robust analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements based on your experience.
