I am working with an industry leading company in Reading looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join them on a permanent basis.

Job description
" The Design Engineer will report into the Design Engineering Manager
" The core role will be to lead the design and development of new products and range extensions as well as supporting the existing product range.
" Work with, and at times lead, a multi-functional project team to develop products through our New Product Development Process.
" Develop both mechanical and electronic products (utilising contract resource)
" Manage new and existing products through the WRAS product approval process
" Conduct and where relevant, manage outside agencies to:
o Create robust project plans and product specifications
o Design new parts, assemblies and products
o Conduct kinematic and static analysis of products' mechanics
o Conduct static and dynamic fluid mechanics of a product
" Develop existing and identify new opportunities for intellectual property
" Work with Operations team in improving quality / ease of manufacture for existing product range
" Hands on approach to testing designs through in-house test facility and through field trials

Responsibilities
" Lead projects through NPD process
" Manage external resource (Mechanical Design, Industrial Design, Electronic Design)
" Maintain test lab
" Demonstrate and encourage NPD best practice
" Champion a Quality driven culture throughout the business

Skills & Experience:
" Good Degree (2:1) in Mechanical Engineering from credible University and fully conversant with engineering principles and particularly fluid dynamics.
" 5+ years' work experience in relevant industry designing "premium" products
" Relevant project management: requirement to have taken several products from concept to launch as a design engineer
" Full understanding of the principles of new product development
" Manufacturing experience should include plastic injection moulding, electromechanical assemblies, PCBs and brass castings and associated finishing.
" Should be experienced with approval process such as WRAS and CE and can demonstrate examples of this experience.
" Should have a manufacturing background, and be competent in Root Cause Analysis, ideally with training and/or experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools and methodology.
" Proficient using 3-D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
" Good understanding of electronics concepts. Electronics experience desirable.
" Experience in the design and development of components used in water systems.
" Solid understanding of the characteristics of flow and pressure
" Experience in designing for plastic injection moulding and appreciation of tool making
" Must have strong IT skills including, Excel, Word, Power Point.
" Strong written English for creating documents and procedures.
" Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
