Junior Database Administrator

It is extremely important to the company that all database systems offer the highest reliability and performance possible. As a Junior DBA you will be working with our design and software engineering teams to help develop ‘world class’ products that meet the company’s current and future business objectives.

You will be providing technical support to ensure the effective and efficient running of databases in all environments as well as provide incident support to our live sites

Other responsibilities of a Junior DBA include:
• Assisting in the training of staff to better develop OLTP and OLAP database environments;
• Assisting in the design and development of tools for the management of the database environments;
• Assisting in the proactive monitoring of live databases to ensure performance SLA’s are being met;
• Transferring and replicating data;
• Maintaining database environments and ensuring their availability to users;
• Database backup and recovery;
• Database security.

Person Specification:

As a DBA, we expect you to:
• Have a minimum of 18 months recent experience of working with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008;
• Be enthusiastic and willing to learn;
• Take direction from others;
• Be self-motivated and have a keen attention to detail;
• Be a strong logical and analytical thinker;
• Demonstrate organisational skills and be able to prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
• Have experience of working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
• Show good written and oral communication skills;
• Demonstrate a good knowledge and practical understanding of SQL;
• Have a good understanding of relational databases.

We also expect you to demonstrate some knowledge of Microsoft SQL server in the following areas:
• Database Administration;
• Database Tuning and Query Optimization;
• Database Management;
• Database Security.

Finally, we encourage our junior DBA’s to become Microsoft Certified Technology Specialists by passing the MCTS examinations for the SQL Server installation and maintenance.
