Head of Group - Safety and Suitability Testing (SST)
Essential:
Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
Degree in an engineering subject
Familiarity with the structures and organisation of the MOD and the defence industry
Familiarity with the requirements of system qualification via assessment, calculation and environmental testing.
Competency with office automation software, i.e. MS Office.
Working knowledge of environmental testing for development and qualification; instrumentation for vibration, shock, loads, climatics; data gathering trials involving land, sea and air vehicles;
Familiarity of data analysis techniques for environment description, e.g. power spectral density, shock response spectra, fatigue analysis; structural dynamics including materials and analytical and experimental modal analysis; environmental test definition, e.g. for vibration and shock.
Working knowledge of technical requirements in DEF STAN 00-35 associated with equipment and munitions
Practical working knowledge of contract accounting
Practical Engineer skills including Systems Engineering
Knowledge of military systems and their influence on CAe projects
Excellent leadership skills; customer facing skills; communication skills; presentation skills; technical report writing skills
Effective motivational skills
Must be very flexible
Strategic thinker and logical
Able to prioritise work and operate on multiple projects simultaneously
Must be a team player but must also have the ability and confidence to be able to work autonomously
Pay attention to detail and specifics

Job Purpose:
Responsible for ensuring the continued success of a high technology field of environmental engineering. Particularly regarding munitions through the successful management of Operations, Sales, Quality, Health & Safety.
Effective people management of a highly skilled team of 12, many who are at graduate level and above.
To have full P&L responsibilities for the business unit and to oversee growth in turnover and profitability. This leadership role includes a wide range of responsibilities from general business management and development, providing the technical lead and drive within the group and liaising directly with Industry and Military customers in the UK and overseas.
To maintain and develop key relationships that include Government departments (MOD and Military) within the UK and overseas. To create and develop new business opportunities within market sectors.
To ensure the latest technological developments are effectively translated into safe and reliable systems and to take overall responsibility for SST's Friction Survey business in airfield and helideck certification
Principal Accountabilities:
Business Management including Financial Management
Business Development
Compiling Proposals Of Work
People Management
Munitions Lifing Technical Lead, including:-
Keeping abreast of current and emergent technical advances associated with the lifing of equipment and especially munitions
Providing oversight and approval of data analysis plans and technical reports on the above matters.
Ensuring adherence to and development of procedures and work instructions associated with our ISO 9000 Quality Management System.
Decision making on future development options to meet market potential.
Attending technical symposia and conferences; compilation and presentation of technical papers.
