Defined Benefit Scheme Pension Administrator – Case Handler

Job Purpose

My client is the trustee of a large number of occupational pension schemes, and is based in Nottingham.

The schemes are mainly defined benefit arrangements, but often have a defined contribution element. Most are in the process of being wound up, following the insolvency of the sponsoring company. An increasing proportion of these schemes are being assessed for eligibility for entry into the Pension Protection Fund or the Financial Assistance Scheme. This requires the drafting of, and adherence to, a detailed project plan with strict reporting requirements. A degree of secretarial duties on behalf of the trustees may be required depending upon the specific circumstances of the scheme.

The Case Handler will be responsible for a portfolio of schemes, reporting to a ‘Principal’ who has responsibility for representing the company in its capacity as trustee, or to a Director.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

To be the principal point of contact for a portfolio of occupational pension schemes
To ensure that each scheme has a project plan or business plan
To administer their portfolio of schemes in accordance with the project/business plan
To ensure that the schemes comply with their governing documents and statutory and regulatory requirements
To maintain the schemes’ database records
To communicate with the members of the scheme; the service providers and regulatory bodies in respect of the progress of the scheme

Skills Required

Experience with Occupational Pensions Administration is essential
Experience with schemes going into the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) or Pension Protection Fund (PPF) would be an advantage
