As the Principal Mechanical Engineer you will join a world-class team responsible for bespoke product design, development and manufacture. The New Products & Applications team is core the company's unique offering of a complete engineering service and involved through concept design and development, prototype and validation testing and low volume manufacture and systems integration.
This is a very fast-paced sector requiring advanced product-design and problem-solving skills for programmes with short design cycle times and innovative solutions. The role involves managing the mechanical design group and being responsible for the teams delivery of mechanical engineering within the companies projects.
What you'll do
Responsible for the delivery of mechanical design for internal and external projects
Manage customer requirements and supplier specifications for prototypes and production products ensuring the highest standard of manufacture, quality and performance on-time and in budget
Manage staged design reviews to company procedures
Define the mechanical and validation requirements
Liase with other functions to ensure System level compliance
Team leader for multi-disciplinary programmes
Deploy relevant design, development and problem solving tools to achieve 'Right First Time' solutions
Support business development, providing key technical input to proposals
Innovation for new products and services
What we are looking for:
Essential:
Holds a Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status
Demonstrable mechanical design experience of automotive systems with a good knowledge of manufacturing technologies
Experience of Catia V5 and Ansys
Good personal management and communication skills
Flexibility to adapt in an exciting fast paced working environment
Willingness to travel
Desirable:
Experience in automotive system design and manufacture
Experience in mechatronic design
Knowledge of BS8888 and GD&T is a distinct advantage
Experience in managing a team
Working knowledge of PDM systems
