Commercial Manager
Position: Commercial Manager - Utilities
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000pa plus excellent benefits
Location: Flexible based of location within a network of UK offices
Our client is a leading utilities company and they are a providing comprehensive water, gas and electricity services to municipal and industrial customers throughout the UK.
This position is of strategic importance to the business and is a member of their Senior Management Team and will provide Commercial support to the Infrastructure Services business. The Commercial Manager will have overall responsibility for commercial quantity surveying, estimation functions and general contract administration. The role will be responsible for the accurate and timely production of contract/project cost and value analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Acting as a member of the Senior Management Team [SMT] to provide general Commercial support to the business
Ensure that commercial controls and processes are maintained at all times
Provide Commercial reports on a weekly and monthly basis as required. For example weekly/monthly Cost and Value reconciliations and the monthly commercial report for inclusion and discussion during the monthly Senior Management Team [SMT] meeting
Provide commercial expertise in the evaluation of Contract and Tender documentation, liaise with the Group Legal department as required
Take responsibility for the estimation function through your direct staff or through other staff employed on estimation activities with other section or Business Streams
Provide leadership, direction and strategy for the Commercial section in line with the company vision, goals, objectives and targets
Operate the Commercial section within the agreed budget To achieve this you will:
Work closely with the Shared Services section to ensure the business operation and targets are met, maximising the benefits to be derived via a shared services group
Provide a monthly Commercial report to the General Manager for inclusion within the Monthly SMT report, based on a Balanced Scorecard/KPI approach
Regularly review existing Commercial processes and identify areas of potential improvement in conjunction with the relevant manager/personnel
Ensure that Personal Development Discussions [PDD's] are completed for all staff under his control
Maintain a Database of prices and pricing models in conjunction with the estimation staff
Actively take part in the general running of the business as a member of the Senior Management Team, supporting the other members of the SMT where required.
Prepare commercial forecasts and once agreed with the General Manager monitor the actual performance against the forecast and analysing variations from the planned forecast Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Significant knowledge of the infrastructure services industry within construction
Knowledge of the UK Multi-Utility and construction industry including detailed knowledge of the relationship between asset owner, asset management and asset delivery
Significant communication and presentation skills
Significant experience of contractual negotiations at a senior level, including dispute resolution
A wide experience of different Forms of Contract used within the construction industry
Significant experience of managing cost control mechanisms, cash flow management and debt control
