The Role

The Control Systems Engineer with have the following primary duties and responsibilities

-Assisting in the continued improvement and development of machine control systems including the integration of Man Machine Interface's (HMI's) and servo motion control and PLC systems.

-Working as part of a multi-disciplined project team, assuming a lead role where appropriate.

-Supervising the specification and configuration of the labeling system including all relevant customer liaison.

-Assisting where appropriate in the quotation and proposal stage of specific project requirements.

-Ensuring that all designs permit the efficient and most cost effective manufacture and procurement of equipment to achieve the desired machine functionality.

-Assisting in the writing of technical manuals, FDS, STP and software specifications including where appropriate the writing of training notes and procedures.

-Ensuring that all designs are compliant with all relevant legislation and requirements, in particular the CE machinery directive.

-Attend customer premises when required to assist with the project management, specification, installation, commissioning and the training of customers personnel with respect to machine control systems.

-Working to ISO 9001 hardware and software design procedures.

The Person
I am looking for applicants with the following skills and experience to apply for the position of Control Systems Engineer

-Programming servo / motion control systems in a multi-tasking environment.

-BASIC programming in real time applications.

-Practical real time application exposure, preferably with high speed machinery.

-Programming of current PLC platforms from Rockwell and Siemens.

Specialist training required
PLC - Rockwell: Micrologix Range, SLC, Control Logix
PLC - Siemens: S7 - 200, S7 - 300
Motion Control Systems: Trio, Baldor ESB

Particular aptitude/skill required
-Candidate must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of PLC control systems, showing a clear ability to program, modify and commission a variety of software solutions specific to high speed production lines.

-Demonstrate a good understanding of servo control systems, showing a clear ability to program, modify and commission a variety of software solutions specific to high speed production lines.

-Demonstrate a good understanding of both hardware and software fault finding and the ability to make modifications to the control system using a very hands on approach. Be able to work alone with the necessary skills to not only make program modifications but an ability to make minor electrical and mechanical modifications.

-Show an appreciation of, and the ability to, configure servo systems to emulate mechanical motion.
Computer literacy

-A disciplined approach to documentation.

-Ability to manage time and priorities effectively

-Self motivation with the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team is important.

-The position is predominantly an office based post however site visits will be required to assist in sales and quotations as well as the commissioning and service of the machinery range. A driving licence, (preferably clean) will be required.
