My Client is part of a globally renowned Corporation which employs more than 26,000 people worldwide. They develop, manufacture and sell a unique range of 3D hardware and software inspection systems for the automotive, aerospace, medical and electronic sectors and have a worldwide sales organisation. The operational and technical groups are made up of several development and manufacturing sites located in North America, Europe Asia and the UK.
They are ISO9001:2008 and TickIT 5.5. Certified for the design, manufacture and installation of calibrated CMMs and measuring robots. The UK Engineering group is responsible for the development and manufacture of the coordinate measurement machines (CMM), supporting metrology software and also a new range of robotic CMMs (RCA). The Engineering group can also be involved in joint-development activities with other Group wide development groups.
The Electronics Engineer will be involved in the design and development of High Voltage power supplies and ancillary electronics across the entire range of equipment within the Product Catalogue. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
*Design and development of High Voltage power supplies and ancillary electronics up to 500kV and 1kW. Additionally includes low voltage DC power supplies (some programmable) and design of both digital and analogue interfaces to other elements of our systems and control and monitoring of vacuum and cooling systems. Safety of operators and service personnel is a paramount concern.
*The candidate will be involved in all stages from concept through technical approval to launch into production.
*The candidate will also be involved in various other aspects of x-ray system design such as EMC compliance and design of motion control systems, power distribution and warning and interlock systems.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to:
*Design of full wave switch mode inverters running above 25kHz.
*Design of full wave and half wave multipliers - must understand HV voltage insulation and how to optimise mechanical assemblies to distribute high voltage stress evenly. Should have a sound knowledge of high voltage components.
*Design of High Voltage transformers and power magnetics.
*Creation of circuit schematics and layout of multi layer PCBs, will need to appreciate and understand techniques to optimise track layout for High Voltage and/or High Current and optimisation of board layout to minimise EMC generation, especially in switching circuits. (Client uses EasyPC from Number one Systems, competent users of similar systems should be able to convert easily).
*Protection of system against transients caused by HV discharges in the vacuum tube.
*Good knowledge of circuit theory and sound knowledge of both discrete and integrated semiconductor components.
*Construction and test of prototypes and pre-production units - development of test strategies and STTE.
*Circuit Model using Spice
*Good working knowledge of technical standards applicable to electronic design, wiring and safety systems.
*Knowledge of both analogue and digital techniques but strong bias towards analogue design.
Qualifications and Experience:
*Minimum upper 2nd honours degree in Electronic Engineering / Electronics or Electrical Engineering from a Russell Group University.
