Are you a shift manager with proven logistics operational experience at a shift level working in a fast moving automated fashion garment environment ideally possessing personal experience of start-up of automated distribution centres?

Leading high street retail business that has built a brand new state of the art fully automated distribution centre to service its Midlands stores and outlets.

The Distribution centre once operational will have a usable area of over 2 Million sq ft. The DC will have four levels of mezzanine floors, along with an integrated, state-of-the-art racking and distribution system which has been designed to service the retailer’s rapidly growing e-fulfilment needs across the UK.

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000
Skills: At least 3 years as a shift/smaller warehouse manager or similar logistics post, leadership, performance management, time management, project management, Influence and negotiation

Job Description

To maximise the performance of the shift operation by leading the daily, weekly activities; motivation, training and development of the workforce, executing against business requirements, and delivering world class service performance.

Responsible for the production operation during the shift of the 850,000 ft2 highly automated Distribution Centre including permanent and seasonal employees (when fully operational c.850 permanent FTE increasing to c.1500 FTE in peak trading periods).
Responsible for the process flows used in the distribution centre impacting on Buying &Merchandising, Retail Operations, Multi-Channel Operations and Transport Operations

The job holder’s direct reports hold responsibility for the following functions within the site including, Logistics operations; performance, permanent/temporary staff, third party providers

The job holder will work with the Operations Manager. In addition there will be regular contact with senior site management team in order to maintain the successful delivery of logistics services and improvements, and to ensure communication across all functions to make sure the distribution centre focuses on business priorities.
The job holder will play a major role in site delivering its cost per single target and will be responsible for delivering the efficiencies required to achieve the business case for the investment in Castle Donington Distribution Centre.

The job holder will also be required to work closely with departments responsible for IT, engineering, HR, Health and Safety
They must possess a good understanding of WMS/WCS functionality, the engineering of automated distribution centres and industrial engineering/performance management.
The job holder will report directly to the Operations Manager
The job holder forms part of the senior operations management team within the site.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Ensure teams understand and deliver the objectives set.
• Direct the daily activity to ensure a safe, clean and fair work environment for team members
• Set high standards of behaviour and performance within the warehouse operation.
• Manage all disciplinary and grievance issues in line with HR policy
• Support the Operations Manager with resolution of any identified critical risk items which may delay objectives.
• Work closely with internal and external customers to ensure on time target achievement
• Facilitate effective communication within the site operations team
• Organise and lead focus on improved productivity levels
• Ensure compliance with all issues relating to Health & Safety, the Environment and Security
• Ensure daily/weekly workload planning and volume forecasting routines are accomplished (i.e. staffing, equipment, space)
• Work closely with HR manager regarding recruitment and selection
• Assist with the forecasting staff requirements week on week both pre and post start-up phase
• Assist HR and training manager with the delivery of training plan for new starters.
• Preparation of Key Performance Indicators
• Ensure that all security aspects of the system and site are adhered to at all times
• Inventory Management
• Adherence to all project timescales against start-up plan
• Management of staff including absence control and effective leadership to maintain motivation and staff morale
