An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer - Assurance (Software) to be based from our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer - Assurance (Software) your main responsibilities will involve:
Providing the ASTUTE Design Authority with specialist advice for Software, including safety justification and operating procedures.
Ensuring Software performance requirements, are adequately specified, agreed with MoD and flowed into the design baseline.
Preparing SRD Requirement acceptance evidence for Software and submit to the appropriate MoD requirement owner for acceptance in accordance with the acceptance submissions process.
Undertake impact assessments in support of change submissions, engineering cost trade-offs or defects, concessions and issues that may affect Software.
Produce and compile evidence in support of Software certification, qualification and safety justifications.
Contribute to the identification and rapid closure of defects and issues emerging from testing and trials, and maintain oversight of any resulting change embodiment or concession activities.
Liaise with Software Suppliers to maintain assurance of design intent, and to monitor resolution of issues that may compromise compliance with the requirements.
Attendance at Progress Meeting with the sub-contractors.
Attendance at Design Reviews with the sub-contractors.
Witnessing of testing at the sub-contractors premises.
Provision of guidance on Software and its documentation to sub-contractors
Provision of guidance on Software Safety and its documentation to sub-contractors
Articulate and present complex technical arguments clearly, logically and simply.
As a Principal Engineer - Assurance (Software) your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Ideally a degree qualified Chartered Engineer in Software or Systems engineering or a closely related discipline.
Experience of Software development in a modern software engineering environment from requirements through design, implementation, testing and acceptance
Experience and understanding of current Ministry of Defence software standards including software safety
Experience and understanding of current International software standards including software safety
Experience of ISO 9000 Tick IT and CMM (Capability Maturity Matrix)
Experience of IEC 61508 Electrotechic Standard (System Safety)
What we're looking for in you:
The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation including Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards and Risk Assessments applicable to the scope of work, and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
