General Manager

A leading Hair and Beauty Salon situated in Reading is seeking a General Manager. The salon was opened in November 2009 and has since grown in size and attained a wide client base. As a result our client is now firmly established and is considered one of Reading’s premier hair and beauty salons. The General Manager will ensure the salon delivers customers with first class hair and beauty treatments. The salon features a retail shop on its premises, stocking an array of hair and beauty brands. Its commitment to its customers and the excellence of its services has enabled them be awarded with the Best Independent Retail Award in the Reading Retail Awards 2011. Hoping to continue with last years’ success, they are in the running to win awards for a second year.
As the General Manager your position will be varied and the task list exhaustive, the role is customer facing with overall responsibility for the smooth running the Salon incorporating reception and day to day management of all staff and Customer related issues. Candidates should be aware that whilst no prior hair or beauty experience or training is needed, some elements of retail experience are desirable. You will be reporting to the Company Directors whilst you will liaise with them directly, you must possess the ability to work unsupervised and independently in the salon. The role of General Manager will be most suited for a candidate who is willing to contribute ideas and take the already growing business to the next level.

Tasks:

-Salon Cleanliness
-Ensure procedures are followed
-Develop and record new procedures or changes to existing procedures as required
-Ensuring all members of staff complete allocated tasks allocating new tasks as appropriate to ensure the smooth running of the salon
-Staff training and development including performance monitoring, training plans and annual appraisals
-Alongside existing hair trained staff liaise with Reading College to ensure apprentice training is on track
-The General Manager will deal with any issues within the salon and ensuring that things are orderly
-Keeping staff busy during quiet periods with marketing activities and Salon and retail outlet related tasks
-Maintaining the Rota and staffing levels
-The General Manager will implement new policies, procedures and standards
-Keeping up to date with paperwork and admin
-Involve yourself in the recruitment of new staff with the assistance of the Senior Hair Style Director, Head Beauty Therapist and with an external HR consultant as appropriate

-Capable of producing basic company metrics and analyzing for business improvement
-Excellent planning and proactive forward thinking
-Excellent written skills and telephone manner
-Capable of juggling various tasks simultaneously

Hours and Salary:

You should be able to work 42.5 hours a week, although flexibility to work extra hours is necessitated. The salary will be based upon your acquired experience and is negotiable.
