An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design & Safety Engineer (Marine) to join a major industrial support partner to the Royal Navy.

Job Description

To manage a coherent safety / environmental framework for the Class Output Management (COM) team as required by the Surface Ship Support Alliance (SSSA) Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) and to marshal the safety case requirements (structured argument supported by a body of evidence) of the Platform Duty Holder (PDH) as described in the SSSA Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

To provide technical support for Design and Safety matters across the classes of Surface Ships (warships), and to inform the support solution decisions, defining changes to the vessels and managing the design delegations.

This includes the provision of information and guidance that adheres to the following principles:-

Cognisance of Current and Future Legislation and Safety Requirements:
Ensuring compliance with current and future legislation for all aspects of platform design and operation.

Fit for Purpose:
Ensuring that Design Solutions cost effectively deliver the level of detail required for downstream activity, in accordance with customer requirements and partner involvement.

Safety Management:
Assure that the COM are safe to operate, including appropriate safety SQEP, delegations and the mandated requirements (WBS) of the platform safety case.

Qualifications & Requirements

*HNC/ONC or equivalent in an engineering discipline (Electrical/Mechanical/Naval Architecture) or as determined by the relevant Director based on incumbents relevant expertise and specialist Naval support knowledge.
*Experience in an Engineering or Technical Environment - particularly in Amphibious Platform and Equipments.
*Highly Desirable - SSMO qualified and be a member of an appropriate technical / engineering / safety professional body.
*Competency in verbal and written communications.
*Computer literate and track record of using the MS Office suite of programmes.
