An exciting opportunity has arisen to join BAE Systems Maritime - Submarines as a Sub-Contracts Commercial Manager in Farnborough, Hampshire.
The successful individual will be a seasoned manager of major complex sub-contracts with extensive experience of dealing with supplier organisations at all levels. They will be responsible for the commercial aspects of the negotiation, placement and subsequent management of complex Combat Systems sub-contracts. This will include the commercial elements of business winning for defined activities undertaken within the Combat Systems business reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager (Combat Systems).
As a Commercial Manager (Sub-Contracts) your main responsibilities will involve:
Overseeing day to day commercial management of assigned Sub-Contracts
Commercial interface with the Submarine Solutions Supply Chain function and ensure that Supply Chain initiatives are communicated to the Commercial team
Leading on assigned commercial sub-contractor selection processes, sub-contractor negotiations and provide guidance and support on others, to ensure the best outcome for the business.
Understanding and work within ethical guidelines and functional authority levels including being responsible for implementing procedures and controls within the assigned area to ensure compliance with Commercial and Supply Chain functional policies
Ensuring that export control and offset requirements are met in respect of current and new assigned contracts
Ensuring that Submarine Combat Systems financial and commercial exposures are mitigated through appropriate commercial sub-contract frameworks (including import/export controls, product safety (including insurance) and intellectual property rights etc.)
Working with the equipment Delivery Team to continually review the performance of sub-contractors against quality, cost and delivery metrics to ensure business' requirements are met. Understand the sub-contractor business, structure, culture, strengths and weaknesses. Develop the sub-contractors through a process of relationship development, communication, and continuous improvement.
Leading in the provision of commercial elements for the Life Cycle Management and Tender Vet process.
Drafting and review of complex terms and conditions to ensure that the business interests are protected
Developing and maintaining sub-contractor and customer relationships both internally and externally.
understanding and application of the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. for assigned sub-contracts and for obeying all HS&E rules and control measures
As a Commercial Manager (Sub-Contracts) your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Qualified to a degree level or suitable equivalent experience Relevant
MCIPS qualified or working towards
Sub Contract Management experience is essential along with business winning experience
Strong sub-contractor/customer focus and ability to deal with all levels of personnel
