This is an opportunity for a recent graduate to work for an established defence company with a set graduate training & development scheme in place. All candidates should be capable of gaining full security clearance.
To support, as a professional Software Engineer, a Systems Engineering team designing and developing new hardware and software systems for the defence and industrial sectors. To be involved in and support the whole life cycle of specification, design, development, test and maintenance of software, both embedded and desktop software.
Key Responsibilities
- The specification and design of software.
- Implementation of new software in C.
- Testing and debugging of legacy and peer C code.
- To review specifications, designs and code produced by your peers.
- The specification of unit, sub-system and system tests.
- To design, code and perform black box and white box unit tests.
- To design code and perform sub-system and system software tests.
- Maintain rigorous configuration control of software, as well as the related documentation.
- Plan technical activities and tasks, and agree timescales and objectives.
- Monitor and report the actual effort undertaken in performing tasks.
- Assistance in the introduction of new best practices and processes into the company.
Key Competencies
- Excellent skills with embedded C as the main language, experience with C# and visual studio would also be desirable.
- Knowledge of object oriented design and programming - e.g. UML or Yourdon.
- Knowledge of multi-process and multi-threaded systems.
- Good communication and inter-personal abilities.
- Results oriented with a drive to succeed and achieve targets.
- Sound judgement, able to work as part of a team or independently, creative problem solver and show diligence and reliability at work.
Knowledge/understanding of the following is advantageous: Linux including the GNU tool chain, real time systems, ethernet sockets and protocols, DCHP and network protocols and embedded digital computer processing hardware. Knowledge of C# and visual studio would also be beneficial.
