Job Purpose:
- Design, implementation and commissioning of Operational Support Systems (OSS) for a range of high availability networks
Key Objectives:
- Provide specialist technical expertise in the delivery of OSS and telemetry solutions for a range of applications
- Provide advice on design and technical solutions to engineering problems
- In specialist areas, manage 3rd parties during development, installation and integration project phases
- Set tasks for and supervise more junior staff
- Produce supporting documentation for handover of the OSS and telemetry to the customer and internal operations departments
- Contribute to the production of cost effective OSS and telemetry system design solutions, ensure solutions are provided on time, in budget and delivered to the customer satisfaction
- Raise purchase order requests for technical equipment, being aware of alternative supplier options to achieve best price for components
- Support the business units in capturing customer functional requirements, and the preparation of formal proposals / bid documentation for design and costing
- Maintain awareness of technologies and systems by attending standards & technology group forums, conferences, seminars, training courses as agreed with line manager. Tracking supplier developments & products
- Contribute to appraisal of leading edge technologies to provide innovative OSS and telemetry solutions, and system level design, whilst understanding telemetry requirements of existing broadcast technologies and systems
- Regular liaison with internal and external operational groups, regarding long term persistent faults/design issues etc. Provide 2nd & 3rd line maintenance and operations support
- Have a strong understanding of the OSS and telemetry systems and act as a technical advisory on these systems
Skills/Competencies:
- Good communication, able to explain technical issues and work instructions clearly and without confusion
Technical knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:
- BSc or BEng in an electronics, control or broadcast engineering discipline, or relevant skills and knowledge based on work experience
- Membership of an appropriate Institution such as IET and CEng status would be an advantage
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of broadcast industry and equipment
- Knowledge of SNMP and network management systems
- Experience in the design and implementation of OSS solutions for remote monitoring and control
- A good understanding of IP-based networks
- IT systems experience, such as Windows or Linux server administrations, Oracle database
- Knowledge of hardware interfacing devices
- Knowledge of network communications
- Suitable candidates might have come from a telecoms network or electricity network environment
