A leading engineering company based in North West London is looking for an experienced systems engineering lead/manager to lead one of their teams. This person will be responsible for managing continual development and maintenance of this business area’s main product – mainly high-reliability vehicles. The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day engineering activities, maintaining design control and optimising the safety and reliability of the vehicles. It also requires the coordination of the various system teams within the business. The work is mainly focused on improving existing designs, improving reliability and dealing with obsolescence issues rather than pure new product design work.
This will predominately be a managerial role, although your technical knowledge should be such that you can check and approve designs - you will also be required to monitor adherence to standards. This position calls for a generalist engineer – although you may have previously specialised in electronic, mechanical, software, electrical engineering, etc. you will ideally have a good basic knowledge of all disciplines. The team currently stands at around a dozen members, including seven systems engineers. The company has very long-term (15-20 year) supply contracts, offering fantastic levels of job security and a chance to support major projects throughout their lifecycle.
You will be required to : -
- Maintain the technical integrity and safety of the vehicles
-Represent the system teams at the business meeting on system team issues
- Manage the engineering team on a day to day basis
- Ensure that the engineering systems and processes are operated to Company procedures and in compliance with ISO9001
- Plan the workload of the team in accordance with agreed priorities
- Forecast medium term activities and headcount moving forward from the planned work scope
- Participate in budget planning with the Chief Engineer
- Produce and validate technical documentation necessary for the procurement of materials and services
- Be the main point of contact with the customer and suppliers on technical matters
- Represent the engineering systems function on the management team
Required:
-Degree/equivalent in an engineering discipline
- Experience in the high-reliability/safety-critical industries – aerospace, rail, automotive, defence
