Job Title Software Engineers - Graduate/Junior Level
Salary/rate £32000/annum 32k per annum, health, pension
Location Reading, Berkshire
Job Number 113402326

Agency/Employer D Tech Recruitment
DescriptionRegister your CV Software Engineer - Graduate/Junior Level

We currently have several vacancies available near Reading, Berkshire for graduates or junior level Software Engineers to work on a range of videoconferencing products; unarguably the most powerful systems available in the world. We are looking for candidates with an excellent honours degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science or Mathematics supported by an impressive secondary education. Candidates should either have knowledge/experience of C / C++ or have a specific interest or passion in web browser architecture with knowledge of Ruby, Python, Perl and PhP and other browser based tools.

It is likely that graduates will have either completed a computing related work placement during their studies or undertaken technical projects pursued as a result of personal interest; these roles require an interest in either hardware or low level (systems/embedded) software.

Junior level candidates will be recent graduates with some commercial experience of C, C++ or web based programming.

Our client is one of the world’s most respected and profitable technology companies; the UK operation was ranked in the top 10% of Best Companies to Work for in the UK in the Times on line survey of best 100 companies (2007). They provide a range of telepresence, high-definition videoconferencing and mobile video products and services worldwide. UK Research and Development has already increased its headcount this year and has a remit for further significant expansion.

For such a technically demanding role, we are looking for outstanding recent graduates as well as experienced engineers who possess excellent problem solving and communication skills. We are looking for individuals who are able to learn very quickly "on the job" and enjoy the challenge of rapidly assimilating new technology and products.

The development group in Reading is divided into five small teams, each of which has complete responsibility for designing and implementing features relevant to a particular set of customers. This means that developers can find themselves working on network protocol code one day and web interfaces the next, rather than getting pigeon holed in a particular role. Working on a bespoke Linux platform, you will join one of the above small teams and be involved in the design and implementation of product features from day one. The development environment is predominately driven using C++ at a systems level on a PC platform and given the systems web / browser interface, there is now a proportion of work done utilising Python and PhP.

Duties and responsibilities

• Design and implementation of new features
• Maintenance of current product
• Working with QA group to ensure product quality
• Liaising with other groups within to ensure usability of cross-product features

Salary and Benefits Package

• Starting salary of £32k per annum
• Permanent Health Scheme providing long term disability cover
• Private Healthcare
• Life insurance cover equivalent to 4 times basic salary
• Access to a Stakeholder Pension Scheme
• 25 days holiday per year

Please be assured that while we give every application our full consideration we cannot guarantee a response to every applicant. If you have not received a response within 5 days of applying please use this as an indication that you have not been successful on this occasion.

DescriptionRegister your CV Senior Software Integration Engineer – STB Embedded Systems - Staines, to 45k

Several opportunities are available for Senior Software Integration Engineers with strong software development skills (including C), and knowledge of Set Top Box, DVB, Broadcast or Telecoms systems to work with a highly motivated team, taking software components from development teams and integrating them together to create an STB Middleware Stack. The integration typically follows an agile development cycle, with incremental component releases containing new functionality and fixes. Because of the complexity of the software and the profile of the job we are looking for engineers with significant development experience who are interested in a broader role.

You must be capable of understanding and resolving problems in complex, multi-process, real-time systems. You will have experience of working in multi-national teams to demanding timescales and get a sense of satisfaction from getting software to work. As a Senior Engineer you will be expected to take on responsibility for your own work and resolve complex technical issues under pressure, drawing on support from domain experts as appropriate. In particular you will be able to quickly understand enough about a new technical area and apply that knowledge in order to identify the problem or an appropriate solution. You will be an experienced, confident communicator, capable of succinctly describing issues to management, the local or overseas teams or the customer.

This is a growing company which places significant emphasis on retaining and developing the talents of its staff. As such, opportunities exist for software engineers to progress along either a technical or managerial career path into a variety of roles.

Main Responsibilities/Duties
• Making the software work together, often for the first time, including providing fixes for priority defects and providing problem reports.
• Working closely with the component development teams to investigate problems.
• Investigation of problems, identifying and implementing fixes to both code and design.
• Support the improvement of the development cycle by identifying areas for improvement.
• To ensure that software updates fix what they claim to fix and don’t introduce new problems.

Mandatory skills and experience
• Degree or equivalent in computer science, electronics engineering or communications engineering
• Strong development skills including C (preferably real time).
• Experience of structured technical problem solving.
• Knowledge of software integration methods.
• Belief in good software lifecycle discipline and understanding of the place integration has within it.
• Use of emulator/debugger on embedded systems.
• Simulator use and/or development.

Personal Skills/Profile
• Strong experience in a DVB, broadcast, telecoms or embedded systems industry.
• A desire to make things work.
• A proactive approach to issue resolution and working with the development teams.
• Self-motivated and not afraid to use your initiative.
• Receptive to changes in the way you work.
• An analytical approach and objective, accurate communication skills.
• A sensitive and constructive approach to problem reporting.

Salary and benefits package

• To 45k per annum
• 25 days holiday
• Private Healthcare with BUPA
• Pension Scheme with 8% company contribution
• Life Assurance
• Sports and Social Club
• Annual bonus scheme
• Relocation assistance

Please be assured that while we give every application our full consideration we cannot guarantee a response to every applicant. If you have not received a response within 5 days of applying please use this as an indication that you have not been successful on this occasion.
