FDET Technician
My client is a world leading independent third party approvals body offering certification of fire, security and sustainability products and services to an international market. My client has extensive and unique world class facilities for fire detection, suppression research and testing to European and international standards.
Due to an increasing volume of work they have an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join their successful and expanding electronics department within the fire detection laboratory. The work will involve project management and testing of complex electronic products in the fire alarm and fire detection fields for certification and approval to European or International Standards and Directives and where appropriate laboratory development work.
More specifically elements of the work will involve:-
• Management of multiple projects from client enquiry through to report publication
• Working to Standards, Directives and UKAS accreditation procedures
• Product testing for both type approval and product audit
• Logging results, report preparation and final sign off
• Liaison with internal departments, external clients, sub contractors and various agency representatives
• Managing new development projects with clients and colleagues whenever appropriate
Skills and Competence for role:
Relevant experience in product testing or evaluation, commissioning or quality and approvals in an electrical/electronic field would be beneficial along with qualifications in an electronic discipline. Being able to work to laboratory procedures, Standards and UKAS accreditation principles are essential qualities. Full training will be given within the specialist product areas.
There will be considerable client contact and therefore excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to maintain and build good customer relations.
You must also be proficient in Word, Excel, working with databases and Outlook.

Job Description
• Component measurement using Romer Arm and CMM’s
• Assist in the progression of samples both internally and externally regarding dimensional and physical attributes.
• Assess suppliers and liaise with them on product issues.
• Create and Control Quality plans and Visual Aid Documents
• Work with current Quality team to expand skill base using PCDMIS Software, this may involve operator training.
• Support Business Standards Manager in Product related roles where needed
• Carry out internal and external audits as required
