Our client is based in East Kilbride, Glasgow involved in off-shore sulphate removal and large on-shore industrial reverse osmosis desalination plants. Contracts can range from US$10 million to US$250 million in the case of off-shore projects the modules can weigh as much as 1,000 tonnes. The company employs approximately 170 people although forms a strategic part of the much larger VWS which employs 9,500 round the world with a revenue of circa €2.5 billion.

Projects are undertaken on a global basis and are always lump sum turnkey. Current construction sites include Brazil and Singapore.

Role:

Key Objectives:

• To support projects in the satisfaction of the company's success criteria in terms of: Safety, Environment, Quality, Delivery and Profitability.
• To establish and maintain a successful relationship with the internal and external customers in providing a first class project controls service.
• Providing summary and detailed Project planning for the business.
• Developing best practice approaches to project planning

Main Duties:

• Maintain and update the IFS Business System Project Management software
• Provide information from IFS as required by Internal Customers / External Customers.
• Ensuring adequate levels of understanding and competence within the broader business in the use of EVA/EVM systems, tools and reports
• Assist with providing independent review and analysis of Project control metrics to senior management and input to board reports.
• Monitoring, reviewing and developing project controls data to ensure quality standards are being maintained and corrective action is taken where needed.
• Become proficient in industry standard planning software, Microsoft Project Primavera.
• Become proficient in IFS applications.
• Understand and interpret project management statistics.
• Develop an understanding of design engineering and fabrication in the Water, Oil and Gas industry.
• Ensure work instructions and procedures are adhered to, in particular with attention to health and safety

Person Specification:
Essential Desirable
Qualifications Technical / Engineering NC or equivalent
HNC / HND in Engineering discipline.

Microsoft office qualification
Background/Experience
Experience in an engineering or manufacturing or ship-building environment

Project Planning and Control experience in a project / engineering contracting environment.

General IT familiarity, and competent in use of MS Office applications. Experience in Oil and Gas or other relevant industry sectors (Water Desalinisation or Water Treatment) would be an advantage.

PURPOSE OF JOB

To be accountable for the delivery of the scope of a project or programme throughout the complete project lifecycle, from contract handover to completion, in accordance with the requisite quality standards, and with consideration to the time schedule and budgetary constraints.
To take responsibility for the management of multi-discipline resource project teams.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

Writing the project management plan and agreeing with the business and the client.
Organising and chairing the project launch.
Monitoring and reviewing project progress against the agreed programme, holding regular meetings with the project management team and creating meeting notes / project reports.
Carry out project financial reviews in conjunction with the project management team (i.e. design leader, site manager, project accountants, project planners, etc.), evaluate cost variances and prepare corrective action plans.
Create and maintain project performance reports and dashboards to meet the needs of the client and the business.
Identify scope changes and manage the scope change process with the client. Develop scope change notices (e.g. NCEs, EWNs), assess cost, programme and resource implications and agree change implementation strategy with the business and the client.
Liaise with the client’s project team in the co-ordination of all project interfaces.
Monitor the effectiveness of the project team and capture lessons learnt and instigate improvements.
Instigate and manage the handover, where applicable and close-out the project.
Managing the purchasing activities and supply chain functions associate with procured services and bought out materials.

Qualifications.

Minimum of a HNC in an engineering related discipline.

Experience.
Experience in a project management or lead role.
Use of the MS Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Experience of managing requirements tracking process from client’s brief and decomposing into functional designs.
Experience of working in an ISO 9001 environment.
Change management
Understanding of the NEC3 form of contract

JOB REQURIEMENTS:

Key Responsibilities:

• Using both ‘Grasshopper’ and ‘Rhino 3d’ software, and link these to analytical software such as Robot and to BIM software such as Revit to produce design solution to technically complex and unique structural engineering challenges.
• Train and develop staff, as well as provide technical leadership and manage more junior engineers to deliver robust engineering designs.
• Work closely with the Directors, helping to enhance their ability to win work by promoting the benefits of 3d parametric design to clients and architects.
• Provide high level technical/design engineering service to the group acting as Job Leader on projects as required.
• Work competently on an independent basis.
• Communicate directly with Clients.
• Manage workload of project discipline Engineers and Technicians (including verification of quality).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering (BEng) or ideally a Masters Degree in Engineering (MEng) and/or PhD or post-graduate Diploma in a relevant area of research.
• Corporate membership of a relevant institution (HKIE, IStructE, RSE, ICE, PE) for Senior Engineers, and a demonstrable commitment towards attaining Chartership/licensed status for Engineers.
