Our client is a family owned steel fabrication group with a turnover of £25million. The vacancy, necessitated by an increase in workload, is situated at one of the group’s subsidiary companies. It fabricates structural steel to meet the needs of civil engineering and construction clients.

The Role:
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate’s main responsibility will be the production of timely and accurate drawings to facilitate:
• The interface with the client and their agents
• Ease of production
• The control of accuracy and quality to meet the requirements of the company and clients
• The control of costs in terms of time, materials, manpower and waste
• Installation at the client’s premises
• The structural soundness and aestheticism of the finished structure

The Requirements:
This vacancy would appeal to an experienced CAD Draftsman who wants to make a long term commitment to an organisation. The successful candidate will:
• Have at least 3 years experience of working as a Draftsman in a steel fabrications context.
• Be able to demonstrate full competence in the use of Xsteel or a similar structural steel design package
• Have good communication skills, with the ability to inspire confidence in clients and work productively with other disciplines e.g. purchasing, production, fabricators, project engineers and architects

Our client is a family owned metals fabrication group with a turnover of £25million. Due to increases in workload, they are looking to fill two AutoCAD vacancies. The vacancies are situated in two of the group’s subsidiary companies. These companies manufacture bespoke, fabricated pressure vessels and heat exchangers for the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries worldwide. They manufacture using high grade stainless steel, titanium, and other high cost alloys and their customers include all the major oil and chemical companies and international process engineering companies.

This vacancy would appeal to an experienced AutoCAD Draftsperson with customer focused, design flare who wants to make a long term commitment to an organisation. The successful candidates will be key members of design teams taking crucial sectors of this successful Group onto the next stage of their development.

The Role:
Reporting directly to the Chief Design Engineer, the successful candidates will have an input into the design process to meet individual customer needs. However, their main responsibility will be the production of timely and accurate drawings to facilitate:
• Interface with the client
• Ease of production
• The control of quality in a ISO 9000 certification context, to meet the requirements of the company, clients and 3rd party insurers
• The control of costs in terms of time, materials, manpower and waste

The Requirements:
The successful candidate will be a competent user of AutoCAD with solid experience as a Draftsman in a steel fabrication environment. In addition they must be able to demonstrate:
1. Knowledge of design using high grade Stainless and expensive alloys
2. An understanding of issues related to the design of pressure vessels and heat exchangers
3. Knowledge of ASME and BS5500
4. Good communication skills, with the ability to inspire confidence in clients and work productively with other disciplines e.g. production, sales and purchasing.

Our client is a prestigious multi-national electronics group. One of the major companies within the group manufactures a range of the low voltage switchgear required in hospitals, banks, large leisure and business facilities. For many years now they have also provided after sales support to their customers by servicing and maintaining these electrical installations.

The Client now wishes to develop this servicing and maintenance side of their business by breaking into new geographical areas and expanding their existing customer base. This has prompted the creation of the new post of Operations and Sales Manager and they are looking for someone who is hungry for success and wants to run their own team.

The Role:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations and Sales Manager will be responsible for the day to day management of the electrical maintenance contract business nationally. This will include the management of a northern-based sales engineer and six field based maintenance electricians. The post holder will also be responsible for developing and sustaining the electrical maintenance contracts business into organisations located in Birmingham and major conurbations of the UK south of Birmingham.

The Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a good electrical engineering background. The role will possibly appeal to a former electrician, electrical installation/maintenance engineer, or a sales engineer from a relevant electrical equipment manufacturer. They will be self-motivated and keen to succeed, as they will be expected to achieve a significant improvement in the maintenance contract business within the first year.

• Good links within the industry, particularly with maintenance contract decision makers in the main customer groups and large facilities services providers.

• The ability to lead, motivate and control a small, geographically disparate, team of engineers.

The Skills Development Advisor will be responsible for the maintenance and development activities for qualifications related products and services, and be a key participant in Improve’s Awarding Body forum. It will be essential to engage in consultation activity with employers to support development. Key aspects of the role will involve relationship building with organisations like Awarding Bodies, Qualifications Regulators and Developers and external consultants. There is also a requirement to play a part in the Skills for Business Network of SSCs, liaising with other Sector Skills Councils, other organisations across Government agencies and the sector. In addition there is a responsibility to undertake general skills tasks to support colleagues within the Improve team.

Person Specification

• Detailed understanding and preferably experience in working with qualifications development
• Knowledge and experience of initiatives or development projects related to the Qualifications Reform agenda
