The company is a specialist subcontractor and supplier for low to medium volume:
• Cable assembly, cable harnesses, cable looms
• Crimp assemblies
• Solder assemblies
• Cable harnesses and cable looms
• Panel assembly, box build and sub assembly
The Company has been manufacturing cable assemblies for 30 years within the UK as well as building up a strong manufacturing relationship with key overseas suppliers based in the Far East.
Due to the success of the Company and its continued growth, an exciting opportunity, with good long-term career development opportunities, has now arisen for an experienced self-motivated Application and Project Engineer to join the existing team based in Theale, Berkshire.
Though the individual will be required to primarily develop business with overseas suppliers, they will also be expected to contribute to the development of the UK Cable Assembly business.
Job Description & Responsibilities
These include:
1. Application/Design Engineering and Pre-sales Support
a. Act as design consultant to customers providing cost saving ideas and appropriate technical initiatives to enhance the Company’s competitiveness.
b. Visit/interact with customers as necessary to understand their requirements - technical, quality, price, timescales etc.
c. Make technical/business proposals and presentations as required.
2. Technical interface between Customers and Suppliers
a. Understand customer requirements. Resolve any discrepancies in drawings and BOM’s with the customer.
b. Identify potential manufacturing problems and propose different solutions to enhance the Company’s competitiveness.
c. Communicate Customers requirements to Suppliers to obtain competitive estimates/quotations/lead times.
d. Resolve Supplier queries, if any.
e. Interface with Suppliers as appropriate to ensure delivery of competitive on time quotations/samples and production requirements.
3. Prepare Proposals/Estimates/Quotations
a. Interpret and analyse Customer requirements.
b. Collect and collate data required (bill of materials, drawings, identification of suitable materials/components, price, labour requirements etc) to enable competitive estimates/quotations to be done.
c. Prepare a professional/competitive quotation/project documents to enhance Company’s competitiveness.
d. Negotiate competitive pricing, delivery etc.
4. Other Duties
a. Monitor success rate of quotations/proposals. Take actions as appropriate to enhance Company’s competitiveness.
b. Assess technical and manufacturing capabilities of Suppliers. Suggest improvements as required.
c. Identify new technologies and processes that would enhance the Company’s competitiveness.
d. Keep proper documentation as required.
e. Assist with quality management (ISO9001), RMA’s as required.
f. Provide technical training to sales as required.
g. Measure and monitor own Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
h. Visit Suppliers (including overseas) as required.
i. Any other task as required by the Company.

Order Processing
a. Take customer orders by telephone.
b. Pass to Operations orders received in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate will:
a. Have some technical qualification – preferably to a minimum of HNC/HND level.
b. Good telephone manner/communication skills.
c. Be computer literate.
d. Commercial awareness of factors affecting profitability of Company.
e. Outgoing and presentable manner when communicating with customers, suppliers and colleagues even when under pressure.
