Transportation is a core sector of our client's business. The Unit provides a wide range of technical, managerial and analytical services to their customers throughout the world. The Integrated Transport Division maintains a diverse range of skills related to the complete life cycle of transport solutions.
They are currently seeking a Head of Transport Planning in Croydon to pro-actively lead the delivery of its current portfolio of transport planning work and build on the current success to grow the business. This appointment is expected to be at Associate Director or Director level.
They currently have a team of 55 within Transportation in Croyden, and this role will head part of the team, consisting of approximately 20 engineers and consultants. The business stream is involved in a wide range of challenging and state of the art projects including LTS, Cross River Tram, Victoria Station Upgrade and Chatham Town Centre. They have extremely healthy future orderbooks, and are on a number of frameworks. In addition to this, they are working on a range of international projects, including the Middle East and Singapore.
The successful applicant will be required to act as project director for transport planning projects for local authorities, high profile clients, and the private sector. In all cases; extensive client and local planning liaison is required, and where appropriate the preparation and support of Public Inquiry evidence. The Head of Transport Planning is expected to take a lead technical role within the team. They will also be required to manage consultant and graduate resources and play a major role in business development.
The ideal candidate will have technical experience in transport planning. They will also possess resource management skills and a business development ability. A second degree in a relevant discipline and/or membership of a professional institute would be an advantage.

Due to an increasing workload, our client are looking to appoint a Principal Hydrogeologist to join their Natural and Built Environment team. Based in Buckinghamshire, you will use your previous experience and knowledge of UK best practice to primarily support their expanding portfolio of UK and international clients, and contribute to our client's business goals by providing technical expertise and knowledge in the field of hydrogeology.
You will also be required to undertake business development activities and will be expected to identify and win new work. You will mentor and supervise less experienced members of the team and provide them with support and guidance as necessary in order to aid their career development.
There will be opportunities to carry out a wide range of technical work as indicated below:
Delivery of capital groundwater projects involving water supply borehole construction for water company, industry and private clients, including abstraction licensing.
Borehole condition surveys to assess the integrity of source assets and to investigate water quality issues
Pump duty, well performance and aquifer pumping tests evaluation
Borehole rehabilitation and aquifer yield development and enhancement and the resolution of operational issues
Groundwater quality investigation and constraint assessment
Groundwater flow and quality modelling using MODFLOW
Groundwater deployable output assessments and identification of potential constraints
Managed aquifer recharge, aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) and conjunctive use investigations and scheme development
Water resource management plan audits for OFWAT and Environment Agency
Environmental impact assessments specific to the water industry, including low flow and source sustainability investigations
Geotechnical hydrogeology including the design and evaluation of groundwater control and dewatering schemes
There will also be opportunities to manage, mentor and expand their groundwater team.
The suitable individual will have the following:
Masters qualification (or equivalent) in Hydrogeology or other relevant subject.
Ability to manage a team and develop and mentor individuals.
A member of a relevant body or institution.

Our client are currently seeking a Hydraulics specialist to join their Buckinghamshire Office. The Hydraulics Specialist will work in integrated teams, in a variety of roles on projects ranging from £3k to £3M. At any one time there will be a very large number of projects underway and depending on the size of the project, you may form part of a large project team or be working on a number of smaller projects.
You will be part of the team of specialists that comprises our client's Dams Group. The groups work involves the identification and optimisation of engineering solutions with regard to remediation and improvement of existing dams/reservoirs and the evaluation and development of new dam projects.
The group carry out projects throughout the UK. Duties will include hydraulic design and modelling, flood studies and flood risk assessment, physical modelling, civil design, input to procurement, assistance with reservoir safety inspections and construction support. There may also be opportunities to work on research projects.
The Group anticipate greater participation upon overseas Hydro schemes and there is a will to gain greater penetration into both the UK hydro and flooding markets. The successful applicant will be expected to support both campaigns.
Applicants should ideally hold a degree in civil engineering with strong hydraulics options or post grad qualifications in hydraulics. The successful applicant will have experience with current specialist hydrological and hydraulics software packages, e.g. ISIS, Mike11, FEH, MicroFSR, HECRAS, WINFAP, etc. Knowledge of ArcView, MapInfo and HySim would be desirable but not essential.
In addition, applicants should have strong communication and organisational skills backed with creative flair, be self-motivated, flexible and reliable with good problem solving skills. Individuals should have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working as a member of a multi-disciplined team.
