Job Title Senior Technical Support Engineer - Electronic Security Systems - Home
Salary/rate £40000 - £60000/annum
Location UK Wide - Home Based, UK
Job Number 107512382
Posted 19/03/2010 (15:42)
Agency/Employer Additional Resources Ltd.
DescriptionRegister your CV Senior Technical Support Engineer - Electronic Security Systems - Home and or office.

Senior Electrical Technical Advisor - Electronic Security Systems Industry - Home Based - Basic to circa 40-50K - Package £50-60K. Includes Company car or a car allowance, Company contributory pension scheme, life assurance.

The position can be based anywhere in the UK. Periodic visits to company premises in the South East and North West of England will form part of the role. Security Industry experience is not necessary : comprehensive product training will be provided. The role will involve travel in the UK and sometimes abroad throughout the EMEA Region.

Our client is a major global electronic security business which designs and produces Fire Detection, access control, intruder detection and CCTV systems, which are installed in commercial, industrial and public buildings.

The position will form part of the Fire Detection Product Support Team. The Fire Detection product range includes addressable control panels, detectors, sensors etc which are installed into buildings often by company owned, and third party, system design and installation businesses. Some of these systems are large : say for hotels, managed office blocks, etc. Systems are also complex - interfaced with third party buildings management systems and other equipment installed in the locality.

After a new system is commissioned, or at other stages in the life of the system, operational problems may sometimes be encountered by the system users. The purpose of this role is to resolve these issues (initially by phone then by site visit) for the largest problematic networked systems. You will be the Company`s technical authority for each situation investigating all aspects of system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance, providing high level technical advice and assistance.

Resolutions may include repeat user training on the system, checking the quality of electrical installation of equipment by third parties, liaising with company research and development teams to correct any product performance problems discovered on site etc. The task will involve a wide understanding of the electrical and electronic aspects of buildings systems rather than just the Fire Detection element of each system because problems may relate to non-fire related areas of each system which the appointee will diagnose. As a result a high level of general technical, electrical and trouble shooting competence will be required.

The appointed person will probably be a time-served Electrician. Skills will have been built upon this platform to include a high degree of PC literacy, networking understanding, communications, datacomms, I.T. professional level knowledge of hardware and software (TCP/IP would be very useful). The ability to learn new software systems and aid in their improvement would be a distinct advantage.

Good written and verbal communications skills are also important. The person in this position will required to talk at a development level about product problems and solutions experienced on site which will impact on Product Development (software and hardware) and Manufacturing to ensure that any specific product rather than installation problems are corrected. Preventative actions for common problems identified, for example in installation practice, will be communicated to the field via bulletins. Similarly, the role will be involved in setting up field trials for new products where appropriate providing performance feedback etc.

As well as communicating issues at a high level the individual will be hands-on on site with a practical approach exhibiting diplomatic skills along the way. Candidates must have excellent problem solving skills, be proactive, well organised and self-motivated and must be prepared to travel throughout the UK and overseas when required.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for a confidential discussion.
