Specific responsibilities
This position involves taking lead roles within development projects with exposure to all aspects of development from contract negotiation to final delivery. You will be involved in organising the mechanical engineering design effort to meet the requirements of the project as well as providing creative solutions to problems. Significant project management tasks may also be a key part of the role.
You will use your strong technical expertise to develop relationships with current and future clients by understanding their needs, writing proposals to define the work programmes, holding technical workshops and presenting data. You will provide a technical point of contact within the company for clients. You will manage tasks within projects requiring delivery within tight timescales and budgets, managing both internal and external resources.
You will also be required to oversee and advise on implementation by junior engineers.
Your specific responsibilities will include:
Definition of technical solutions for product or system developments
Leading design engineers to realise your technical solutions
Generation of concepts and layouts of systems in CAD
Detailed design of components and products in CAD
Tolerance analysis of system designs
Production of detailed drawings and manufacturing specifications
Transfer of designs to manufacture through liaison with external suppliers
Minimum requirements
To meet the requirements of this role you should have a high level of practical experience with proven technical skills, and have spent significant time in an engineering design environment. Exposure to the healthcare industry is important, with experience at a Pharmaceutical or Medical Device company being a strong advantage.
An excellent knowledge of manufacture and assembly processes from one off designs to high volume manufacture is required. A good understanding of manufacturing techniques, assembly processes and material selection is key. Significant experience in 3D CAD, preferably Pro Engineer and Solid Works is also required
Hands-on experience in leading mechanism design, stress analysis, mould flow analysis and other CAD analysis tools is desirable.

Our client carry out research supporting the development of measurement technologies, which are vital to improving quality of life, trade competitiveness and protecting the environment.
An opportunity exists to join the Acoustics Group who work on the measurement of sound (in air and water); acoustic emission, audiometry; medical and industrial ultrasonics; noise; modelling by finite-element techniques and development of new acoustical measuring instruments. Applicants for this post should have a good degree in physics or a related subject and an interest in Acoustics supported by practical experience.
The successful candidate will work on the provision of the UKAS accredited measurement and calibration services for external and internal customers, and provide measurement support for these services. The calibrations provided include those for audiometric devices, such as reference couplers, artificial ears and mechanical couplers: pistonphones and sound calibrators and microphones. The ability to follow procedures with a careful and methodical approach to measurement and analysis of results, attention to detail, the ability to provide timely deliver, as well as strong customer focus, are vital to this role. A valid driving licence is preferable as occasional off-site work may be required.
There will also be the opportunity to provide measurement support for research projects within the portfolio, which covers a wide range of topics. The successful candidate will work mainly within the sound-in-air area, but as required there will also be the opportunity to assist in taking measurements within the other areas of acoustics.
Applicants must meet the requirements of this position in order to be submitted, ie educated to Degree level, with proven experience of Acoustics.

The Shift Technician has total operating responsibility for the manufacturing plant. This is achieved through a centralised control system, and by physical intervention where and when required. The duties of a shift technician continuously change as our business environment and operational needs evolve, and is especially focused on quality or process orientated tasks in a technical, computerised and automated environment (POLAB, SPC, Expert system, PLC’s and other) aimed at improving performance, product quality, availability and technical efficiencies whilst minimising costs, environmental and safety risks.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Senior responsible person on site outside office hours – Responsibility for initiating the call out procedure.
· Operationally competent to run all processes controlled from the control room and associated services, without direct supervision.
· Knowledge and understanding of the process computer and logic diagrams. Knowledge of interlocks within the process.
· To control the process using SPC charts. Understand charting, making actions and clear record keeping.
· Specific knowledge of safety procedures: Statutory Health and Safety as well as the Company Health and Safety Document. In particular the Shift Supervisor is the key person in the operation of the Permit to Work system, (ATW).
· Fault finding and first line maintenance on all plant equipment · Must use knowledge of plant and process to lock off all relevant items of equipment when work is being done on them.
· Responsible for sampling and measuring their own in process quality,
· Do plant tours and physically check equipment and process. To work with the philosophy of preventative maintenance in trying to anticipate breakdowns before they occur. Record observations from plant tours against the relevant check list and where required, generation of COSWIN user requests.
· Responsible to perform trouble shooting on the whole plant to find causes of problems Mechanical/Electrical/Automation/Material) , and undertaking actions to fix them. Clears blockages, use of hand tools etc.
· Receives and logs raw materials, including but not restricted to lime, heavy fuel oil, and rejects (from external contractors). Assist with unloading where necessary.
· Fill the mill hoppers with product to match production requirements. Check the crane grab, bonds, cab and controls. · Assists the other on duty supervisor in whatever duties necessary to keep the plant running well. These include but are not restricted to: burner changes, firing the gun, clearing blockages, resetting trips and overloads.
· Movement of goods and skips by forklift truck when required. Inspection and defect reporting on trucks
· Reprocesses reject material. Keeps record of where recycled to, quantity, rate of recycling, quality checks.

Background
This company has developed and patented a range of electro-optical technologies for
rangefinding, intruder detection and collision warning. Following the successful launch of its first laser rangefinder the company is creating a new, dedicated electro-optics team within the engineering department to capitalise on these opportunities.
The purpose of this new role is to:
motivate, manage and drive the Electro-Optics Team to take product concepts from research
through design and development and into production so as to deliver commercially successful new products, working in collaboration with other company functions including the Electronics and Mechanical Design teams and Sales & Marketing and Operations.
Ensure that new product designs are suitable for use in their intended environment and fit for
purpose, paying due heed to the relevant professional Standards and any other requirements as specified by the Company or the customer.
implement product development project plans in accordance with agreed budgets, schedules,
technical standards and specifications.
work with the final test department to develop and implement appropriate test processes, fixtures and procedures for electro-optical products.

Job Dimensions:
This position is suitable for an engineer looking to make a career progression into sales. The Sales Engineer will support the sales efforts of the sales team both directly and indirectly to achieve the team booking plan.
