Applications Engineer
Our client is a world leader, supplying components for automotive, marine, rail, traction and industrial engines. They are a global Company with facilities in Japan, Europe, USA, Asia, India and China.
Core purpose of job role:
As part of the Application Engineering team, to provide a high standard of technical customer service and support for both existing designs and new projects, with active involvement from prototype design to full production.
Key tasks & Responsibilities:
To produce component designs, drawings and analysis using software, including the completion of theoretical studies and predictive work
To carry out technical visits to our customers and end users in the UK and overseas, providing advice on tribology related issues and analytical information on bearing performance
To provide technical support to our sales teams
To establish causes of bearing damage and to propose solutions, based on dimensional analysis, photography, metallurgical and SEM examinations
To produce technical reports
To liaise with our Production facilities over the set up, manufacturing and quality checks of our products
To contribute to the resolution of technical problems and to the development of resources including materials and software.
Training and skill development opportunities

Profile required for this position:
Applicants should hold a degree in an engineering discipline or a lower level qualification that is supported with relevant experience.
Your experience within industry will have provided you with a good understanding of the design and mechanics of rotating and/or reciprocating machinery such as for example, engines, turbines, pumps and turbo chargers. Specialist experience in bearing design and damage analysis is especially relevant.
Competency in the use of engineering design software is essential, ideally in the field of bearing design.
Experience in writing technical reports that present your analysis and findings in a succinct and professional manner.
Competency in the use of computer applications such as spreadsheets, e-mail, word processors and databases.
A basic understanding of metallurgy would be an advantage.
You should have:
- An enthusiasm for learning and self-development, together with the ability to apply your learning in a methodical and proactive manner.
- The ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats and situations. Foreign language skills would be an advantage.
- A methodical approach to problem-solving based on sound technical knowledge and the ability to work well with others.
- The ability to drive and to travel within the UK and overseas as required.
- A proven track record in establishing and maintaining positive customer relationships.
