Description

A special school based in Dulwich is seeking to appoint an experienced General Science teacher on a long term basis from April 2010. The school provides for pupils who have statements of special educational need for their moderate, severe and complex learning difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).
Pupils come from diverse socio-economic and multi-cultural backgrounds. Nearly half of the pupils come from a range of ethnic groups, the largest being from Black African or Caribbean family backgrounds. There are a significant number of pupils for whom English is not their first language, and some of these are at an early stage of learning English. Pupils are referred from a range of local London boroughs and there are a higher than average number of pupils eligible for free school meals. There are three times as many boys as girls. Currently only six students are in the sixth form provision, which started in September 2007. The school has achieved the Healthy Schools Award and holds the Silver Artsmark and the ICT mark. The school also provides an outreach support service to mainstream schools that have pupils with ASD.
This is an outstanding school where leaders and managers put pupils' well being and achievement at the heart of all it does. The highly committed Headteacher has a clear strategic vision for improvement, which is widely shared with the whole school. She is exceptionally well supported by a highly competent and well-organised deputy and a clearly focused and motivated leadership team. With a dedicated staff and well-informed governors, they continue to improve the provision and learning opportunities for all pupils. The school is a real community, where pupils support each other and take a real pride in looking after their environment. Pupils' individuality and strengths are nurtured and their individual progress and achievements recognized at every opportunity.
We are in the process of short listing and arranging interviews, to avoid disappointment please send your CV today

The successful candidate must be able offer either Art or PE as an additional subject. This will be a long term role that will commence from April 2010.

Description
|
A special school for pupils who have statements of special educational need related to social, emotional and behavioural difficulties as well as other health issues; are seeking to appoint a KS3 Curriculum Leader / PSHE teacher in a combined function. This will be a long term position starting in April 2010.
The majority of pupils are white and most other pupils are from Black Afro-Caribbean or Black African backgrounds. Approximately one-third receive additional ethnic minority support, although none have English as an additional language. 14 children are 'looked after' and a Family Centre, staffed by therapists and social workers based at the school supports the pupils and their families. Some pupils also access provision at a number of other sites in the borough.
The school's view that the pupils' personal development and well-being is good is well founded. Most pupils enjoy school and this is reflected by 100% attendance in some instances. Prompt and sensitive management by staff ensures that learning is resumed in the shortest time possible. There is evidence of developing maturity as a result of the pupils' response to their environment and the schools' approach to reducing exclusions. Most pupils respond well and acquire a good knowledge of them.
Significantly, this aids their personal development, particularly their economic well-being and informed choice on leaving school. They also respond well to physical education in addition to the PSHE emphasis on staying healthy and avoiding things that may be harmful. The pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good. They show an increasing awareness of their own emotional needs, how to address them and how their behaviour affects others. Their awareness of other cultures is good. Some pupils hold responsibilities on the school council and make positive contributions to school life.
We are in the process of short listing and arranging interviews, to avoid disappointment please send your CV today
