They are looking for a highly motivated test engineer to work at their Staines office. As a software test engineer, you will not only participate in customer-driven and strategic product development but also be expected to contribute to the wider advancement of software engineering and testing practise, within your team and potentially across the group. Currently, the company is working with Agile methodologies in parallel with delivery according to more traditional approaches and processes.

The role
The Test Engineer role involves the testing of system components that are in widespread use by leading Digital TV companies around the world, and the analysis, design and execution of test scenarios which ensure the quality of these systems. As a test engineer you will work closely with the development team on their latest software product releases.

Central duties of the role are:
• Creating and maintaining functional, non-functional and system test scenarios and plans.
• Using all sources of information to prioritise test scenarios
• Executing test scenarios and recording results
• Selecting tests for automation and producing automation scripts
• Following a formal defect management process
• Employing risk-based analysis to ensure the most efficient use of time and resources

Mandatory skills and experience

• An excellent knowledge of software testing procedures.
• Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
• Be rigorous in the standards that you apply to your work.
• An open approach to communication and good interpersonal skills, leading to good verbal and written communication.
• Thrive in a collaborative team environment with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Solid scripting or coding experience (e.g. Bash, Python)
• Keen interest in technologies and be able to pick up new technologies quickly and easily
• Experience of Linux
• Educated to degree level in Computer Science or a related discipline (ideally with good A level grades and a 1st or 2.1)

This role is in a security test laboratory, specialising in Common Criteria (CC) and CESG Claims Tested Mark (CCTM) evaluations. They perform evaluations of hardware and software devices as well as smartcard related work. As the Graduate / Junior Evaluator you will support the evaluation team on both CC and CCTM evaluations, and will assist with research projects as time allows. It is intended that you will achieve Qualified Evaluator status.

Your main Duties and Responsibilities will be to undertake Common Criteria and CCTM evaluations, under the direction of the team. You will assist with testing and analysis work, supporting side channel analysis (power analysis, laser faulting and so on), electro-magnetic emanations analysis, and undertake laboratory work on sample preparation (once training in use of lab equipment has been completed). The range of technology security testing is extremely broad but a concentration on networked products will be an initial focus.

Skills and Experience
• Recent 1st Degree or Masters - preferably in Computer Science or related discipline (Communications or Security biased)
• Some security testing/evaluation degree content would be an advantage, although training will be given.
• Familiarity with technical security concepts would be preferable.
• Familiarity with common operating systems and Networking principles (Windows, Unix, TCP/IP, etc)
• Good communication skills, both written and oral, as work is often directly client facing
• Ability to use standard Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is expected.

You must be willing to undergo security clearance under HMG to at least SC level as Qualified Evaluator status requires an SC clearance as a minimum, in addition to the technical requirements of QE. This means that candidates will need to be UK nationals to ascertain the clearance within the time period.

Working within a small team, you will need to fit in well with the existing team, and be able to work with minimum supervision. You must be willing to undertake occasional short international visits, as many of their clients are overseas and they are often required to undertake work on-site. You will be confident in dealing with clients, who are often of a senior level, hence confident communication skills are paramount. You must be willing to undertake training, both formal and self learning, with a view to developing the necessary skills and attitude of mind to become a successful evaluator.

• keeping essential documentation up to date
