Satellite communications Systems Engineer
Large communications company looking to recruit to new System engineers to work account managers to survey and install new installations of Satellite communication equipment within the sectors of Oil & Gas, Yachting, Finance, Media, Construction & IT.
The main technologies are digital satellite communications, DVB-RCS, iDirect, IP networking, client / server software and hardware, VPN firewalls, TCP accelerators, routers and VoIP.
The main tasks are
1. To act as in-house Product support on selected Satellite Systems, communications technologies or applications.
2. To support Account Managers in dealings with customers on engineering issues and conduct demonstrations in support of Sales.
3. To be able to present and discuss satellite solutions to both technical and commercial customer representatives.
4. To mobilise at short notice to survey, install or configure customer networks.
5. To own, investigate and resolve escalated engineering service issues.
6. To provide accurate and timely technical information or analyses on a variety of engineering investigations.
7. To produce and maintain detailed technical documentation relating to products, services and customer networks.
8. To direct suppliers in achieving in-life Product or Service enhancements.
9. To evaluate customer RFPs & requirements and produce high quality & compliant engineering responses including network designs and solutions.
10. To keep abreast of new developments in the IT & communications industry which are applicable to the company markets.
11. To evaluate new technologies or products, and propose their introduction to the company portfolio.
12. In line with our New Product Introduction Procedure, to provide internal briefings and training to all affected departments.
13. To participate in a DVB Support Engineer shift rota.
The successful candidate will be provided with any necessary PC, GSM, Blackberry and VPN keys, field tool kit etc. They will also be very familiar with data test sets, protocol analysers, RF spectrum analysers and other lab equipment such as oscilloscopes / multimeters etc.
Package is:
Salary between £29k - £33k plus Monthly Car allowance of £150.00
Broadly working a 37.5 hrs working week but within an overall company operating period of 8.00am to 8.00pm
After successful completion of probationary period the following benefits apply:

They combine mechanical, electrical and functional features where the smallest of detail often determines the overall performance / usability of the device. Skills/Experience Required :
B.Sc/B.Eng Degree in Electronic Engineering, equivalent or above.
Typically 4-6 years relevant experience.
Understanding of modern electronic circuit board design techniques
Firmware development and microcontrollers is a strong advantage.
Experience of modern CAD design tools for schematics and layout design (e.g. Zuken & Mentor).
Hardware electronics testing and verification
Writing specifications
ESD/EMC understanding is seen as beneficial
Previous experience with mobile phone product design industry is desirable.
The company is looking for an enthusiastic team player to drive and participate in a wide range of activities. HW design and verification are only part of the role, in combination with customer support, and frequent supplier meetings.
