THE ROLE:
~To service fire alarm and associated systems in line with the current regulations.
~Liaising with relevant departmentˇ¦s to ensure best practice and the most cost effective solution.
~To complete and return all Company documentation and certification to comply with the Companyˇ¦s ISO 9001 systems and LPS1014 procedures.
~To work as a team with colleagues and the Senior Engineer to enhance the Companyˇ¦s reputation in quality and customer service.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
„XCarry out scheduled routine servicing in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner in line with our clientsˇ¦ quality standards.

„XCarry out all other necessary works required at customer premises in accordance with our clientˇ¦s quality standards.

„XGive prompt and efficient attention to emergency call outs received during working hours including outside of working hours.

„XSupport the rota schedule as required to maintain a reliable and responsive out of hours service for our clients customers.

„XEffectively communicate with our clientsˇ¦ customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status, particularly system defects that affect its correct function.

„XIndicate to our clients customers any Fire Safety information relevant to the site.

„XLiaise with service administrators to ensure commitments are met.

„XPlan own work, including routine service/maintenance visits, emergency call out requirements and remedial repairs and minor additions to existing installations in line with service administration guidance.

„XEnsure legible and timely completion of our clientsˇ¦ paperwork as required.

„XBe responsible for the management and security of own equipment stock in an efficient and economical manner by determining stock levels in relation to work activities and ordering stock items as and when appropriate.

„XOperate in accordance with our clients requirements, Company and customerˇ¦s quality standards and health and safety requirements.

„XDiscuss and recommend suggestions for system/service improvement with Line Manager.


„XAttend training sessions identified by our clients and identify and communicate to Line Manager any personal training and development needs.

ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

„XLeaving our clientsˇ¦ customers with fully functioning fire detection and alarm systems unless Line Manager and customer have informed of the reasons that completion is not possible before leaving the premises

All documentation being completed and reaching the required destinations within agreed time limits.

„XEnsure that our clientsˇ¦ customers are always well informed regarding Fire Safety requirements.

Taking care that the responsible person is satisfied with the service they receive.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Skills:

„XAble to work independently.

„XAble to plan, implement and complete service activities without assistance.

Able to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection and alarm systems and to correctly test and terminate with cable ends in accordance with manufacturersˇ¦ instructions. Understands different types of cable containment systems.

„XAble to operate all required test equipment.

„XDemonstrate a logistical approach to systems fault diagnosis rectification.

„XDeal with customers, end-users, construction personnel and in-house staff in a professional manner.

„XGood verbal and written communication.

Technical Knowledge:

Full and detailed understanding of BS5839 Part 1.

„XCompleted Units 1, 4, 5, 6 and 8 of BFPSA Training (or equivalent).

„XHas a comprehensive understanding of fault finding on conventional and addressable fire alarm problems, including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system.

Basic Electrical Safety training (ECA).

Manufactures training in all other equipment required. This may include VESDA, Radio and Fire Suppression and will be decided by the Line Manager based on regional needs.


Standards:

BS5839 Part 1.

„XBS7671 (if involved in installation work).

„XBS6266 where required.

„XTo operate business procedures within the framework of BN EN ISO 9001:2000 and LPS1014.

Documentation:

Able to read prepared plans and technical sketches, service and repair systems in accordance with information provided and record changes to the location of equipment on the installation drawings and the O&M manual.

„XIdentifies and reports the requirement for new and additional works.

„XAccurately completes appropriate paperwork in line with our clientsˇ¦ requirements.

Calculates the incidence of false alarms and prepares advice for customers on the implications of these incidents.

Health and Safety:

Has completed and fully complies with the necessary Health and Safety training.

Our client who is one of the worlds leading manufacturers of fire detection for Commerical and Industrial Applications is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer.

The ideal candidate must have proven electronic design experience with a strong understanding of digital and analog circuit design techniques including the use of CAD tools such as OrCAD, PSPICE, the use of common 8 – 32 bit processors such as ARM, AVR32, PIC32 cores and use of CPLDs and FPGA.

Qualifications:
•Degree in electronics or very closely related subject, OR
•HND in electronics or very closely related subject plus minimum 5 years designing commercial embedded system.

Skills and Abilities:
•Some understanding of product compliance engineering (LVD, CE marking and other agency approvals and certification processes).
•Proven high speed digital hardware design techniques using 32bit processors, CPLDs, FPGA.
•Analogue electronic design experience.
•EMC design technique.
•Experience of the complete hardware/product design cycle including architecture design, component selection and schematic capture, prototyping, validation, testing, through to volume manufacture.
•Board level design experience including the use of CAD tools such as OrCAD.
•Use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Experience:
•Minimum 3 year experience in embedded system design.

Tasks:
•Design 32 bit multi-processor embedded system that includes complex gate arrays and memory.
•Design of embedded system that will run large RTOS such as Linux, WinCE.

Must have the following qualities:
