Principal Responsibilities / Key Duties:
• To assist the Highways Team Leader in managing the resources in the Highways Team to deliver the agreed outcomes for highways schemes

• To agree the briefs, programmes and budgets with the Highways Team Leader

• To ensure designs are appropriate and meet the expected levels of technical excellence

Qualifications and Skills:
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE or IHT)
• Registered with the Engineering Council to at least CEng level
• 5 days of CPD in last 12 months including 3 related to Highway Engineering
• Basic Project Management Skills
• Competent in Highway Engineering
• Broad skills, knowledge and understanding of other design areas
• Understanding of H&S Requirements related to Highway Engineering
• Broad knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation
• Competent in exercising the Designer’s obligations of CDM
• CSCS Supervisor (Gold) Card
• Understanding of Environmental Requirements of Highway schemes
• Basic knowledge of Quality Management
• In-depth understanding of QMS
• Good communication skills
• Relevant vocational qualifications (MEng / BEng / BSc / HNC and HND)
• Detailed knowledge of design codes (DMRB / MCDHW etc) relevant to Highway Engineering
• Knowledge of the HA procedures necessary to deliver a Highways project
• Knowledge of the use of computer design tools

Experience
• Appropriate recent experience in Highway Engineering
• Recent experience of leading small design teams and coordinating interfaces with other disciplines
