Provide statements for, and attend court as Footwear Mark Expert. Management of all aspects of footwear mark evidence within Force.
Scope
Search, recover and examine trace evidence both at crime scenes and within a laboratory.
Analyse all incoming offender and crime scene footwear mark impressions, compare them against the reference collection and code each impression. Update the computer systems accordingly.
Compare crime scene footwear marks to the soles of footwear recovered from prisoners to establish matches, prepare reports and expert witness statements on those matches for court.
Maintain continuity and integrity of exhibits received into the Forensic Footwear Unit and update and amend the evidence management and Crime Recording systems accordingly.
To optimise value of forensic budget by carrying out the detection, recovery and physical screening of forensic evidence in order to evaluate the likelihood of achieving a positive result upon submission to an outside agency and by advising officers on all matters relating to footwear mark evidence.
Efficiently manage the Forensic Footwear Unit to maximise the effectiveness of footwear intelligence and detections. Conduct staff’s performance development reviews, manage their health and safety, training and welfare needs.
