Main Purpose of Job
Reporting to the regional Workshop Manager, to deputise and assist in the provision of support in all aspects of the region's engineering function. To include assisting with quality improvements and reliability of the fleet and also support with regional engineering staff issues.
To manage all workshop and field based activities for a specific location ensuring that workshop job allocation to engineers are monitored for completion. Organise and coordinate the effective engineering service support to the Depot and the Region, covering scheduled service, planned preventative maintenance, repair and breakdown, and accurate timely administration to meet customer requirements in line with Company Health & Safety policies.
Principle Accountabilities
Assist workshop service manager to coordinate and prioritise all maintenance and compliance issues across all depots and satellite locations within region Assist workshop service manager to organise and coordinate the resources of the workshop, both fleet and people to ensure that the company requirements in terms of machine availability are achieved. Assist workshop service manager to recruit, train and develop staff to ensure that Depot and Region has a sustainable, effective engineering team, to meet Company targets and objectives. Lead the depot workshop team to ensure that the workshop staff are motivated to achieve depot, region and company targets, ensure daily performance of all workshop personnel achieves agreed objectives. Assist workshop service manager to identify training development needs of workshop personnel, and ensure provision of training and development in line with achievement of individual, workshop, depot, region and corporate objectives. Ensure that the pre-delivery inspection (PDI) of machines is in conformance with manufacturer's specification, company policy and the regulations affecting the use. Ensure that there is no deficiency or defect likely to affect the safe working of a machine. Notify the appropriate manager of any serious defect or unsafe equipment as required. Assist the workshop service manager to ensure that all machines are repaired and serviced in accordance with company targets and policies. Assist the workshop service manager to plan and Schedule the preventative maintenance programme of the fleet in line with company policies and targets. Ensure that all Service Engineers handover machines to customers and familiarise customers with safe machine operation in accordance with company procedures. Act as an ambassador for the company, providing a high standard of customer care and being polite at all times. Relay appropriate customer queries to depot staff as required. Maintain high levels of personal appearance, ensuring uniform and personal protective equipment are used correctly. Maintain records covering workshop equipment, statutory inspections. PAT testing and LGV servicing. Deputise for the workshop service manager in times of absence, ensuring agreed daily prioritised activities are completed and recorded, ensuring depot / regional managers are informed/updated of daily progress. To act upon and respond constructively to all reasonable requests from any senior manager included in and, outside the remit of a company engineer to aid and support the overall business objectives.
Person Specification
The individual will need to demonstrate a professional approach to the daily leadership of the engineering team in order to deliver an effective level of customer satisfaction that successfully retains and builds business. Proven ability to plan and schedule activities utilising existing resources at minimum cost and disruption to the business. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate highly effective engineering skills with hydraulics, pneumatics and diesel engine knowledge. Must have a minimum of 5 years engineering experience. Must be confident, self-starter, the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and work well under pressure.
