Turbine Commissioning Engineer – Basic c £33k – OTE c£50k

Our client is an internationally renowned market leader in the manufacture of bespoke control systems for a range of special purpose Gas and steam turbines applications for Blue Chip customers worldwide, and as a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and self motivated Commissioning Engineer who is able to demonstrate relevant experience in this technically demanding arena.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Supporting Control / Instrumentation and Auxiliaries systems on Gas Turbine Driven Generating Sets, utilising Rolls Royce Avon or Olympus Gas Generators for both UK On Shore located Power Stations, and Off Shore North Sea Platform locations.

It is essential that candidates wishing to be considered for this post be able to demonstrate the essential flexibility required to provide rapid response to breakdown Call Outs for On Shore locations as well as support for Off Shore locations when necessary, in addition to undertaking scheduled service / maintenance visits to check and calibrate Instrumentation and Auxiliary systems at the On Shore Locations and Re-Commissioning of machinery after these service and maintenance visits.

Occasional visits to Overseas locations may also be required, although during periods where attendance at site is not required, work in the East Midlands office environment will be allocated, and is likely to include procedure preparation, spares assessments, in-house repairs on customer equipment and assisting with ongoing project work.

In order to be considered for this unique, challenging and highly rewarding opportunity, the successful candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge of PLC based Control systems with associated MMI, SCADA packages and ideally familiarity with Woodward NETCON. Additionally demonstrable knowledge of Gas Turbines, Rotating machinery and hydraulic systems and the Power Generation Industry in general is essential.

To be considered for this position, due to the safety critical nature of the role, it is essential that you be able to demonstrate at least 1 years experience of dynamically commissioning an industrial Gas or steam Turbine system, alongwith with formal qualifications in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering and a clean driving licence.

Our client specialise in the design, development and implementation of automated warehouse and distribution solutions for supply throughout the UK and Europe, and as a result of an ongoing exercise to strengthen the Design Team, a number of new permanent positions have been created for experienced and highly capable Design Engineers to compliment the existing department, culminating in the need to recruit an experience Senior person to report directly to the Mechanical Design Manager.

The successful candidate will be tasked with the design of the mechanical aspects of material handling systems for a range of bespoke customer requirements, in line with a given specification and within cost and time scale constraints, and will lead the mechanical design aspects of projects, interpreting project layouts and specifications into final design layout and conveyor datalist, and providing system integration drawings and specifications when required.

Additionally, you will review, check and approve unit cycle times, system throughput, and general dimensional requirements and develop a detailed design and manufacturing programme, giving advance notice of materials required to the Purchase Department and allocating design tasks to project related workload. You will also undertake the review, checking and approval of project related documentation. (i.e drawings, calculations, datalists etc) and assist with the system risk assessment (and unit risk assessment where necessary) in line with statutory requirements.
