Our client is the acknowledged market leader in modern clinical waste disposal in the UK. The company has a vacancy for a General Manager at their Waste to Energy Incinerator Plant, based in Ipswich. The General Manager will be fully accountable for the operational activities of the Ipswich Plant. Candidates should have a strong technical ability plus excellent management skills. Overall Purpose
To be fully accountable for the operational activities of the Ipswich Waste to Energy Plant, in order to safely meet customer service levels, utilisation and availability levels in accordance with Group Targets, the license compliance and environmental conditions, within approved Business Plan Budgets. The key success criterion is the safe long-term operation of the Plant at sustained high utilisation. The key to achieving this will be the careful and effective use of resources and manpower, on a day-to-day and hour-by-hour basis, as the impact of demand and current availability requires. To achieve this you must have good management skills backed by a strong technical ability. A positive analytical approach and a “can do” attitude must prevail at all times to successfully execute this role.
Main Tasks and Accountabilities
•To manage plant operations to license and H & S requirements
•On site vehicles and drivers relating to the servicing of Ipswich customers will be the responsibility of the General Manager (GM) and there will be a need to liaise and work closely with the Shift Operations Managers (SOM's) whether based on site or remote (if applicable) and the Regional Operations Manager regarding routes and capacity.
•Have full budgetary responsibility for the Business
•Lead and direct Plant Manager and site personnel
•Effective co-ordination and monitoring of Hazardous Waste Consignment Notes (HWCN).
•Compile site business plan for authorisation
•Maintenance and development of operational systems on site, ie Tower/Biotrack
•Regular liaison with the Environment Agency and other Regulatory bodies
•Appoint, develop and discipline staff
•Organise the plant scheduled maintenance in conjunction with the Plant Manager
•Oversee visitors and contractors on site
•Prioritise and schedule work of the Plant
•Monitor statutory calibrations
•Maximise utilisation especially during planned and unplanned maintenance
•Plan and implement plant improvements
•Authorised signatory for the Plant up to £3000
•Compile and authorise Risk Assessments
•Monitor use of consumables and spares
•Signatory for radio-active consignment notes
•Oversee the housekeeping on site and ensure a high standard is maintained.
•Report and monitor all accidents, incidents and environmental incidents on site in line with Company procedures.
•To assist on other sites within the group when reasonably requested
•To support the Commercial Team in account development through regular contact/close liaison with the local customer network.
