This team deals with strategic and micro-modelling, scheme appraisal, development planning, traffic management, engineering and road safety, parking strategy, public transport and a variety of related topics.
The requirement is for a Principal Transport Planner with a strong analytical and modelling background to assist with and manage highway and other modelling projects. The candidate should have expertise in the use of SATURN and other software, such as TRIPS/ EMME2 or micro simulation models, such as Paramics, VISSIM, and have the expertise to advise on the design of modelling studies, their management and reporting.
The candidate should be conversant with the appropriate guidance on the assessment of transport schemes and familiar with the role of related disciplines. He or she will be expected to contribute to the design and day to day management of transport modelling and forecasting studies and the assessment of scheme impacts, including environmental, operational and economic appraisals.
The candidate will be expected to lead a team of supporting staff and to work closely with the client in the management and delivery of projects.
A high level of expertise in a transport planning occupation, in either the public or the private sector would be expected with evidence of developing responsibilities within this career. This should include a range of transport planning applications and the development of personal capability in one or more of the following fields:
? Design, development and application of traffic models for transport scheme forecasting and appraisal, for highway and possibly public transport projects;
? Assessing the transport effects and infrastructure requirements (access, car parking, bus stops, cycle parking, etc) of road schemes and new developments, to support scheme design and appraisal, planning applications or to inform local authority development plans;
? Designing, managing, interpreting and presenting transport and travel surveys;
? Developing and applying statistical analysis and forecasting techniques;
? Project design and management, including supervision of junior staff;
? Production of written reports and other documents; and
? Participating in public consultation initiatives, including designing leaflets or questionnaires and attending scheme exhibitions;
Competencies:
Potential candidates will need to show evidence of the following:
