To lead production shifts and support the Value Stream Cell Leader (VSCL) in all cell activities, within the value stream, to ensure that production targets are met and to improve cell performance. To help support the identification and implementation of continuous improvements.
Supervise and motivate cell team members, through effective communication & recognition referring to performance measures, such as Day by Hour. Identify training needs to cell members and provide appropriate training support in accordance with skill level and expertise. Ensure new starters are effectively inducted to the cell.
Ensure 5s, HSE, Fire regulations are maintained within the cell; carry out inspections and take corrective action as appropriate.
MAIN DUTIES
When required, are able to operate CNC machines, polishing and other conventional machines and inspect output, as required. Ensure components meet required quality levels and adhere to the companies quality procedures.
Supervise and allocate work schedules and flow of work around the production cell. Identify overtime needs and make recommendations for additional working to VSCL.
Support the VSCL in maintaining standard work disciplines, to ensure the maintenance of up to date records, perpetual inventory count, booking transactions, shift data, shift performance, MOT checks, shift hand-over, 5S, front line asset care (mc check lists), PM’s, layered audits, Pulse Meeting, Team CI process, Day by Hour & Key Performance Indicator reviews etc.
Deal with team issues arising and advise on Company procedures and policies. Record cell holidays in the cell diary prior to VSCL approval. Refer for further advice as necessary.
Report machine breakdowns and work with maintenance department to prioritise and resolve.
Assess non-conformance parts Scrap / RDM / Salvage. Complete appropriate records and produce required reports. Maintain daily output records. Monitor equipment daily and ensure records are up to date.
Deputise for VSCL in the case of shifts & absences.
Support the flow of transactions in MAPICS or other systems and rectify booking errors.
Ensure that the cell has all the correct tools, fixtures, consumables & equipment to enable production and that at the end of the shift all are stored in the correct locations.
Responsible for all HSE issues within team and work area and carry out inspections.
Major Job Challenge(s)
Meeting daily production targets whilst maintaining quality standards.
Time spent on supervision duties varies across this group from 20% -100% depending on area / shift / size of cell / immediate problems and available additional support e.g. team leader / co-ordinator.
Decision Making
Prime:
Adjust authorised machine parameters to produce components of the correct size. E.g. Machine tool offsets / Datum settings / Change worn press die / Authorised minor programme alterations in some cells.
Shared:
Allocation and prioritisation of work amongst employees on shift
Discuss with VSCL and / or quality dept any non-conforming parts for possible salvage rework or concession. Any non essential Q4 decisions.
Referred:
Authorisation required before moving or resetting jobs onto alternative machines

Due to significant and sustained growth our client are now looking for a ‘Team Leader’ within their cages manufacturing section.
A supplier of composite and polymer products to the aerospace, defence, medical, automotive, transport and industrial markets across the globe our client are looking for a candidate with experience supervising a manufacturing team on rotating shifts preferably in a CNC or machining environment…
The main aims of this role are ensure …
• Manufacturing Efficiency
• Daily Targets/required output being met.
• The profitable manufacture of Bearing Cages to Customer Due Dates
• Develop and mentor your team successfully.
Duties will include…
• Ensure all consumable items such as drills/tips etc are held in stock and ordered in advance via Senior Team Leader/Cage Section Coordinator to prevent potential production lines stop.
• Ensure that 5s audits are completed at least once per shift and compared against the standards set out on the 5s audit sheets.
• Ensure that all cage manufacturing cells are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
• Ensure where possible, that multi-machine manning to maximize labour efficiency is utilized.
• Ensure that all cage loading boards are kept up to date and marked off when work in progress starts/finishes
• Ensure that all Employees within your area are trained to a standard capable for them to undertake their expected/required duties so they can operate in a safe and conscientious manner.
• Ensure that all machine dry wipe boards indicate which product/works order is currently running and the required hourly output.
• Ensure all machines have the next job ‘kitted up’ and available by the machine before the previous job finishes.
The right person…
• Experienced in a similar manufacturing environment.
• Potential candidates may be expected to demonstrate any machining/CNC capabilities which they may have on our client’s current CNC machines.
• Experience within a CNC or machining environment preferred.
• Previous shift leader / supervisory experience.
• Experience in the training of new staff and temporary staff.
• Ideally time served candidate who is ready to make their next career move.
Our client operates a triple shift system within the section and you will be expected to cover night shifts. This will normally be done on a rota system normally two weeks on each shift. The shifts being operated are 0600 to 1400, 1400 to 2230 and 2200 to 0600.
