Our client based in Dartford is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer.
Suitable candidates will be degree educated (BEng or MEng in Electronics product development)
The PDE will be mainly focused on the development of camera, monitor and digital recording systems with a strong bias toward electronic engineering. Extensive knowledge of camera, optics, LCD’s and digital recording technologies with a good fundamental knowledge of the associated mechanical engineering principles.
The position will require the applicant to provide lead product design capability in our company’s commercial vehicle product safety range and assist the Product Development Manager in new product design and development enhancing the company’s portfolio and supporting the Quality and Standards Manager in improving the company’s quality standard.
The PD Engineer will predominately be at PCB design level, utilising cutting edge technologies and engineering methods keeping the company at the fore front of its technology and enabling the company to better manage and control its intellectual properties, whilst enhancing its cost effectiveness. As part of the Engineering team, the successful candidate will also be required to support the application team in the test and development of current products adapted to support the application specific requirements of our customers and markets.
The role will be mainly supplier-facing, working with multiple suppliers and manufacturers in both high and low cost countries, overcoming language barriers. The position may also occasionally extend to supporting our customers as needed.
To enhance the Quality aspect of the team the applicant will require experienced knowledge of the automotive electronics design standards and quality control principles which are a key in ensuring the co’s product quality standards are met.
This position will require a candidate with a proactive approach promoting out co’s business ideals and customer relations while enhancing the Engineering team’s technical knowledge.
The base for this position will be in Dartford but may require frequent travel throughout Europe and the Far East.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analogue and digital circuit design and development, including micro processing and digital signal processing
• Digital communication protocol e.g. I²C, SPI, RS232 etc
• Video and audio signal processing e.g. composite video, RGB, PoE, PLC
• Optical knowledge and image processing and recognition using CCD, CMOS, IR and related technologies
• LCD interface and panel design
• Hard Disk Drive, solid state drive and flash memory
• Software hardware interface and Software Engineering
• Mechanical interface and design
• Supplier acquisition management and negotiation improving profitability
• Implement Design for manufacturing
• Lead manufacturing techniques helping our supplier base develop efficiencies
• Engineering specification creation and development
• Product Verification and Validation
• Product technical support primarily to internal customers and colleagues
• PCB level troubleshooting and product diagnostics
• Product quality improvements and cost saving implementing Total Quality Cost Management
• Preparation of detailed electronic schematic’s and component technical drawings
• Aid the Sales and Engineering team in translating customer requirements into technical solutions
• Support the Engineering team in the development of its working practices and processes to achieve better efficiency of work
• Aid the various work streams within the Engineering team in it’s day to day work
Our client offers an attractive salary package with company bonus, ability to join a pension scheme after qualifying period and LA.
Hours of work are currently 8am to 4.30pm when at the office (7.5 hrs working day), but must be flexible on start and finish times to fit in with customer needs at other times. Flexible working hours will be required for this position.
