I am currently seeking an IT Analyst to work for a well-established team for a household name client, based on the outskirts of Bristol.
The successful candidate will provide 1st and 2nd Line support to a network of internal customers. You will ensure that all problems are either solved or escalated to the 3rd Line Engineers. You will be required to be aware of and stick to the Service Level Agreement, and ensure that you do all in your power to meet these service levels.
You will be responsible for logging calls and communicating all issues to other members of the IT team. You will provide support to both bespoke software products as well as the Microsoft Office family of products including Sharepoint, and you will be expected to ensure you know how to operate the software and how it is used throughout the business. You will also work on and fix server operating system faults, and you will be heavily involved in desktop support of printers, workstations and laptops. In addition to this, you will work on the management of the LAN and WAN networks and escalate all problems that you are unable to deal with to 3rd Line support. There is also the opportunity to work on your own project work, and you will be given end to end responsibility for project delivery where appropriate.

Job Description
Using skills and experience you have already acquired, your task will be to develop an online content portal that will be populated with content drawn from our rapidly expanding range of research reports and other sources. Raw content will be provided in the form of Word documents (text, tables and diagrams) and spreadsheets. Apart from the front end you will also need to develop a back end CMS that will be used by our analysts to upload content on an ongoing basis.
Working closely with your manager and starting with a detailed Requirements Specification and a significant volume of initial content you will have sole accountability for the entire development process including: system design and architecture, identification of suitable third-party open source CMS tools, making buy/build/customise decisions, tool customisation, preparing detailed design specifications, back end programming, front-end coding, user acceptance testing, bug-fixes, public launch and post-launch support.
With the exception of daily contact with your manager (e.g. via Skype video/audio, IM and email) and the presence of another experienced developer/programmer who will be available to discuss/resolve detailed design issues, you will be working at home and largely in isolation.
This job requires someone whose natural inclination is to take end-to-end accountability for a project and who thinks like a rounded engineer.
Experience
You will need to demonstrate:
*2+ years practical experience with MySQL (back end) and PHP (front end);
*2+ years practical experience with handling Debian/Linux server administration (managing remote VPS and software development using a Linux CLI);
*Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C# and Python (which will be a definite plus);
*Experience with key the functionalities offered by third party open source CMS products [either large-scale systems (e.g. Joomla or Drupal), or smaller-scale post-based systems (e.g. WordPress or Moveable Type)];
*SEO experience as it would apply to the content portal (e.g. ensuring that our web pages are found on Google searches) - or the ability to learn quickly.
Other Requirements
English speaking: We conduct business exclusively in English. Therefore, your written and spoken English will need to be outstanding to perfect;
Equipment: You will need a computer that was purchased within the last few years, a reliable fixed broadband internet connection and a copy of a Microsoft Office 2007);
Home based working: You will need to have a good reason for wanting to work from home and a proven track record in home-based working, which does not suit everyone;
Attention to Detail: You will be expected to do your job without making errors. You will agree that many so-called 'bugs' are actually due to implementation errors including: insufficiently detailed requirements, missing requirements, flawed design, sloppy programming or inadequate testing. Attention to detail is absolutely essential.
Education
A first or, preferably, second degree in computer science (or equivalent) is mandatory.

Self employed for the first three months (nominal 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
Assuming that your three month initial project is completed to the required, high standard then your employment will be converted into a full time, permanent home-based position with the content of the job changing to other projects.
