The Role

• Be responsible for writing project briefs for new product developments and existing product seasonal refreshes.

• Liaise with the supply base (Far East & European) - understand product costings, factory capabilities and negotiate terms.
• Ensure full visibility of all new and ongoing technical issues – actively seek to understand the root of the problem - work with the technical team and supplier to resolve promptly and effectively.
• Have market awareness of all key competitors, price points, products, features and benefits.

The Person

A natural problem solver, you will be both analytical and commercial with a genuine passion for product design, engineering and development.
Experienced in the consumer durables industry, you will ideally be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in either a product design, engineering or manufacturing discipline.

• In addition you will set and ensure accuracy of the range maintenance to keep VM guidelines at a high standard and ensure that space/free stock (Available to sell) in store is accurate.

• Ensure that initial allocation plans prior to delivery of goods are set and liaise with B&M to ensure stock is available prior to launch.

• Ensure the critical path for new store openings is followed. Work closely with Retail commercial and Visual Merchandise to ensure that the correct stock package is sent.

We are now seeking a Senior Product Development Manager for our Wooden Furniture Category to join the team. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take ownership for management of a Product Development team in the UK & Hong Kong to deliver collections and seasonal ranges on time, on brand and to budget. Responsibilities include:

•Through an awareness of key competitors, price points, products and features and benefits, work in conjunction with the Commercial Manager to develop a product strategy that reflects the design language of the brand and demonstrates innovation in terms of design, quality, safety and value for money

•Through detailed knowledge of the manufacturing process for wooden furniture, work with Suppliers & the Technical team to develop new ranges, resolve technical issues and simplify manufacturing process, cost and lead times

•Drive the product roadmap through critical paths, key milestones, and work in conjunction with Buying & Merchandising to drive category performance through knowledge of stock levels and promotional activities

•Conduct sourcing trips with the Far East, building strong supplier partnerships and gaining a full understanding of capabilities whilst also identifying new opportunities

•Utilise and educate the wider team on global product standards legislation

•Review all cost prices and margins including review of BOM’s, tooling and manufacturing techniques and make proposals/negotiate cost savings

•Continued review of Wooden Furniture category to ensure products meet with Brand and Customer Values

•Key stakeholder: Product Development Director, Head of OEM & ODM, Commercial Manager, Design Manager OEM & ODM, Freelance Furniture Designers, Product Developers, Buying & Merchandising, Technical, Retail

The ideal candidate will bring to the table a strong blend of technical knowledge about solid wood and veneered furniture and strong commercial skills. You will be an established Product Development Manager / Technical Manager within the consumer furniture hard goods retail market or supply base with a proven background in negotiation and margin control. You will demonstrate extensive knowledge of the manufacturing process for flat pack wooden furniture and will be able to confidently communicate, build relationships and develop an innovative product strategy. The role

•Responsibility for the efficient operation of the home shopping department receiving calls from both the UK and Ireland.
•Effectively manage all staff and ensure all Key performance targets are met, taking into account both sales and service levels.
•Ensuring the highest quality standards are adhered to in order to provide the ‘Ultimate shopping experience for new and expectant parents.
•The ability to take a ‘hands on’ approach, handling calls as and when required.
•Identify opportunities to improve overall performance through call monitoring and training.
•Ensure product knowledge of the team are of the highest standards and have the ability to work alongside a number of departments.
•Work closely with the e-commerce team to provide ongoing feedback for web related issues.
•Provide weekly updates to the Home Shopping Manager.

The Person

•Proven track record in managing a team is essential: customer service, telesales (both inbound and outbound)
•Have a working knowledge of computerised systems e.g. Spreadsheets, Word Processing.
•A creative thinker with an innovative approach to problem solving.
•Confident with the ability to communicate to all levels of the business.
•You will be proactive with a dynamic and analytical approach to driving performance.
