Retail Store Manager, Perth & Kinross Area, £22,000 - £30,000
The Co-operative is currently recruiting in Perth & Kinross for an exciting new Store Manager Development Programme.
There’s never been a better time to join the Co-operative. We’re one of the UK’s largest food retailers and we’ve spent £millions on strengthening our brand as the leading ethical food retailer on the high street. As well as welcoming Somerfield to the business we’ve also enjoyed a 17% increase in profit during a recession. So we are growing and changing, but we’re also very secure because we’re part of the wider Co-operative Group.
The Co-operative Way
Are you currently a retail manager who is eager to manage your own convenience store and help our ethical food business continue to grow from strength to strength? If the answer is ‘yes’ and you are a dynamic self-starter who embraces change, this might be just what you’re looking for!
After successful completion of one of our selection events, you will commence our 12-week ‘Co-operative Way’ Store Manager Development Programme. Focusing on various store management modules, all underpinned by our unique Co-operative brand and guided by a passionate Store Manager, the course will train and inspire you, so that when you complete it you’re more than ready to take charge of a store. The programme is designed to develop great leaders – it’s thorough and exciting, but it’s intense too – so you’ll need to be flexible.
The Right Individual
We are looking for high performing Managers with established retail management experience and a real passion for delivering the best customer experience possible. Our Managers can clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and team management, resilience when faced with problems, the ability to coach and train others effectively and to organise and prioritise efficiently.

Description

There has never been a better time to become a Supervisor with Somerfield. We offer a competitive salary (with increased pay for overtime), award winning training, 10% staff discount, 30 days holiday per year (increasing with service) and, most importantly to us, unparalleled opportunities to progress your career.
Now as part of The Co-operative Group, we are the UK’s leading community food retailer. We have doubled our share within the food retail market and have grown from under 1000 stores to over 3000 in the UK. We believe this will propel us to become part of the 'big 5’, able to offer more to both our staff and our customers.
The Supervisor role
The Supervisor plays an absolutely pivotal role in each and every one of our stores and is the first level of management within the store structure. Key responsibilities include managing a team of CSAs, training colleagues, coordinating holiday and rotas, stock replenishment, ensuring the store is operating legally and safely and, of course, delivering exceptional customer service to our customers.
Are you a Somerfield Supervisor?
Our Supervisors come from many backgrounds, but all share the key attributes that we look for in our future employees. These include excellent influencing and interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritise and organise effectively, a good commercial awareness combined with an aptitude for driving sales and availability, a commitment to providing exceptional customer service and a good degree of PC literacy.
Food retail is a fast moving industry that requires individuals to be open-minded, flexible and adaptable. We expect everyone who joins us to have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and a real passion for retail.
After your initial company induction, which will give you all the information you need on your first day in store, you will begin our Reach programme – a self-driven scheme which will provide a structure for your training over the next few weeks.
The Benefits
Standard working hours for this role are 38 per week, 5 days in 7, and you will need to be completely flexible to work anytime between 6am and 10pm. The basic pay rate is £6.35 per hour, rising to £6.75 once you are signed off as a Duty Manager and multi-skilled throughout the store.
Pension scheme after 12 weeks probation, life assurance, childcare vouchers and flexible benefits booklet. Overtime (over 38 hours) will be paid at 1.5x usual pay, night work (between 22:00 and 06:00) at 1.33x, Christmas Day at 3x and New Years Day at 2x.
