Sitec are currently looking to recruit a Building Services Mechanical Engineer for a nuclear MoD establishment in Reading. The post is for an estimated 12 month contract and is paying on an hourly basis circa £35-40.00.
Successful applicants will be required to be Security Cleared prior to appointment.
Job/Role Purpose:
1) On a daily basis, undertake mechanical engineering design tasks as allocated by Engineering Managers/Senior Engineering Manager and deliver appropriate designs to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
2) Contribute to inter-disciplinary design co-ordination and to project support activities including routine team liaison, reporting and activity planning.
3) As required, carry out suitable duties as may be allocated by the Facility Design Authority, Mechanical.
Key Accountabilities:
* Generation of appropriate design deliverables [in accordance with all known and applicable requirements such as legislation, best practice, recognised public Standards, client Standards and the client Quality System and its supporting documents such as OPs and WIs]
* Contribution to inter-discipline tasks such as document checks and reviews, and inter-discipline support/liaison [involving assistance/input to other design disciplines, active contribution to project team discussions/meetings].
* Active liaison with relevant Design Authority specialists to obtain formal and informal support and approvals [involving routine contact with Head of Discipline, Mechanical, within the Facility Design Authority and others such as the Mechanical Legislative Champions].
* Performing CAD elements of own deliverables scope and supporting others, as requested [generation and control of CAD-based deliverables]
* Timely support to administrative requirements [weekly timesheets, personal training/compliance records, progress reporting, input to work planning, etc.]
Key Responsibilities:
* Correct application of document systems, including relevant EDMS applications, to generate design deliverables within mechanical scope and for inter-disciplinary review tasks.
* Correct use of sources of reference and direction, such as clients Standards and other Technical Information Services (via Library etc.), client's Quality System and its associated OPs, WIs and Guidance documents, the Safety Manual, Design Safety Principles, Engineering Mandatory Elements, etc.
* Inclusion of Design Authority personnel for defined inputs, formal checks/approvals.
* Correct use, within relevant PD work, of appropriate client CAD Manuals and methods, including interfaces into relevant EDMS applications (in support of the DCC).
* Correct use of CAD methodology to generate CAD deliverables based on information provided by various other engineers assigned to create discipline deliverables for PD projects.
* Attendance at and pro-active input into project and engineering group meetings and discussions/reviews.
* Support to project and project modelling activities and documents, as required.
* Completion of timesheet each week.
* Completion and maintenance of required training and associated records
* Execution of any appropriate Design Authority tasks, as requested by them.
Knowledge:
* Overall knowledge of the mechanical engineering needs of technically complex and highly regulated major projects, at a working level of detail, to allow suitable design and deliverable development.
* Working knowledge of CAD methodology and applications used by PD.
* Awareness of work scoping and planning principles for future activities.
* Basic awareness of Project Management/PTI systems for study/project scheduling of engineering activities, focussed on detailed planning and reporting own work in terms of progress and schedule
* Basic understanding of budget systems within a project-oriented delivery context, for personal productivity tracking and for projects and overhead use
* User-level knowledge of client training system/record system ("Oracle" based)
Experience:
* A fairly well developed experience of industrial/applied design engineering methodology.
* Good experience in at least some closely relevant parts of mechanical engineering
* Good experience in plant and engineered systems including 'packaged'/specialist scope within an overall design and associated interfaces with capital estimating and procurement, and associated communication systems and constraints.
* Broad experience in relevant legislation and the use of additional (e.g. Company-level) Standards
* Working experience in direct use of CAD within a complex project environment.
* Working experience of team work and planning/reporting of such within multi-discipline project teams, including project/scheduling interfaces
* Basic experience of risk management techniques
* Experienced with design of explosive facilities and/or process (JSP482).
Skills:
* Working familiarity with Microsoft Office "Word", "Excel" and "PowerPoint" applications, and preferably with "Visio".
* Working familiarity with client's preferred CAD applications, and some awareness of a Collaborative Data Environment (CDE) - focussed on AutoCAD (and related developments such as Autodesk Building Systems (ABS) and Architectural Desktop (ADT)
* Ability to interpret and give technical input into scheduling activities ("Primavera" format is client's standard application; administration by other specialists).
* Good inter-personal skills and an inclination towards team-based work methodology.

Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or other Technical discipline if supporting knowledge and experience supports required expertise and intended areas of work.
* Chartered status preferred.
