A pro-active Manufacturing Engineer with both technical and problem solving experience within a specialised electro-mechanical assembly & test environment is required. This role primarily supports the production of a range of complex and specialist gas sensors and requires the ability to lead the development of new and existing manufacturing processes at an expert level. Work with the operations team to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing processes.

Manufacturing Engineer:
• Experienced in implementing modern manufacturing methods (like six sigma, Lean Manufacturing & ATE) and effectively apply them to reduce lead times and subsequently improve quality, on-time delivery and cost to the customer.
• Continuously work to reduce the levels of process scrap and rework through improved workflow techniques based on root cause analysis data (ideally 8D problem solving technique).
• Provide manufacturing leadership in NPI processes to support development scientists, engineers & production operators to ensure well defined DFx product characteristics are met and measured correctly & thus providing a platform for ongoing implementation of process control and continuous improvement activities
• Generation / update as required the production BOM’s / Routers on ERP system (SAP).
• Generate and lead the continuous development of PFMEA’s for all products.
• Provide suitable and correct information to enable others to perform their duties effectively (process data, jigs & fixture references)
• Preparation/updating of new/existing manufacturing process documentation (PFD’s, SOP’s, SPL’s) and associated tooling required for product manufacture.
• Create Process Specifications and Material Purchase Specifications
• Generation, as appropriate, Capital Authorisation requests for plant and tooling in supporting a continuous improvement environment.

• To maintain and improve the 5S level within the department.

Main Tasks
Quotation Control and Maintenance
• Act as a central control point. Create and maintain a quotation log for product sales and services.
• Ensure quotations include correct mark up elements, and that they address peripheral costs, such as shipping, travel, subsistence, duties.
• Set up a system to ensure that the sales person, or customer, is aware that a quotation’s validity is close to expiring.
Commercial Investigation
• Ensure export to potential customers, and that all necessary agreements and licenses are, or will be, put in place, ahead of shipping.
